Isaac Hayes Now Upset?

Isaac Hates has been the voice of Chef on South Park for about nine years. During that time South Park has made fun of several religions. Kyle is Jewish and Cartman is always making remarks about Jews. Christians have been blasted on a number of occasions and Muslims have been on the receiving end of South Park’s satirical (and often bigoted) view of religion. This never seemed to bother Hayes. Now that South Park has taken a swipe at Hayes’ religion, Scientology, he is upset and will not be a part of a show that abuses religion.

Perhaps Hayes can explain why he never voiced an opinion after any of Cartman’s relentless attacks on Jews. Why did he not leave after any one of them? Why did he not leave when they were hard on the religions of Islam or Christianity? Perhaps it is because Hayes actually feels it is OK to bash those religions because they have different beliefs than he. South Park co-creator Matt Stone had this to say:

“This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology. . . . He has no problem — and he’s cashed plenty of checks — with our show making fun of Christians.”

It would seem that Hayes wants South Park to show a tolerance he himself is unwilling to display. I wonder who is the bigot now?

The ultimate irony would be for the show to write off Chef in some Jim Jones type Scientology mass suicide. Now that would be funny.
