Is He Accountable Or Above Reproach

A lot of noise is made about Harriet Miers’ nomination from both sides of the aisle. I have said and I still maintain that the President has the right to pick who he wants. If she is confirmed, fine and if she withdraws or is not confirmed then that is fine too. However, there has been a lot of flak because she was never a judge. Well, being a judge does not mean one is any better with law.

Prince George’s County Maryland Judge Richard Palumbo presided over a case several weeks ago where he lifted a restraining order that kept a man from getting near his estranged wife. If there was a restraining order there was probably a good reason but the judge saw it differently. Three weeks after the order was lifted the man set his wife on fire after dousing her with gasoline. She is still in the hospital.

This judge must not have been worried about the safety of the woman. So now she is paying for his incompetence. This is also a judge who sits in court all day and if you showed up for speeding would fine you. He does not feel he should be held to the same standards. He got a ticket and asked the officer to void it because he was a judge. The officer did so, contrary to procedure. Did the judge get in any trouble? No, but the officer was counseled on proper procedure.

Here is procedure for you. How about if judge Palumbo drives the speed limit and if he gets caught speeding he pays a fine like everyone else. How about we consider removing him from the bench because he is a danger to people’s health. I love it when people in a position of power show their elitist attitudes. This is because we do not hold them accountable. They can do about anything in court and say anything about you but if you open your mouth it is contempt.

Well I have contempt for the whole judicial process most of the time anyway.
