In Haste To Slam Brown Coakley Makes A Big Mistake

After the debate last night in Massachusetts, where Scott Brown beat Martha Coakley very soundly, Coakley rushed an attack ad out to stem the tide that is now going against her. In her haste, she made a big mistake. The wording at the bottom of the add misspells the name of the state.

Jammie Wearing Fool has a screen shot of the ad and the state is spelled “Massachusettes.”

One would expect a person to be able to spell the name of her state especially if that one is running for the US Senate. But Martha was in such a rush to get this out that she approved this message, misspelled state and all.

This is the kind of attention to detail one expects from a person who will march in lockstep with her party regardless of the details and who is now in panic mode.

The add was pulled for a bit of time and when it went back up the state name was spelled correctly. I guess she took a lot of heat over the error.

Brown said he was not going to go negative and that he did not want big name Republicans coming to the state on his behalf (not that he could stop them). He is busy running around the state campaigning after he received around 1.3 million dollars in 24 hours after an internet money bomb. His donations are small ones from every day people.

Coakley is in DC at a fundraiser that has 22 registered lobbyists, 17 of whom are directly involved in health care.

This should tell the people of Massachusetts where her priorities are.

Scott Brown might just pull this off. A lot will depend on the weather, voter enthusiasm after a three day weekend and what groups actually turn out.

If he wins this will be the second shot heard round the world. He will make a number of vulnerable Democrats very uneasy.

If a Republican can win in Massachusetts then a Republican can win anywhere.

And the Democrats know that which is why SEIU is kicking in a lot of money and some heavy hitters are making their way to Massachusetts.

Ace has a video of a union steel worker who is carrying a Coakley sign. The guy says they paid him $50 to stand there holding the sign but he is voting for Brown.

Priceless…

It’s a funny mistake but you act like she typed the text herself or that she even looked at the final ad before it went out.

“If he wins this will be the second shot heard round the world.”

You folks can’t stop comparing your cause to the American Revolution. It’s sad the way conservatives try to own patriotism by aligning it even with things like special elections for a Senate seat. It’s a little overly dramatic, don’t you think?

    • Blake says:

No, but she hired incompetents, although it is true that today’s younger people are badly educated, and it is not like she has innate intelligence either, so possibly she thought the spelling was OK.

Adam you wouldn’t know true patriotism or a true patriot if they came up and slapped you and equating patriotism to arguing for the Democratic party anymore is not it. And just for your information this country is not a Democracy (rule of the will of the people). It is a Republic (rule of law established in the constitution). No where in the Declaration or the Constitution does the word Democracy appear.

    • Darrel says:

VIC: “you wouldn’t know… a true patriot if they came up and slapped you”>>

      DAR
Sounds like true patriots are kind of violent.

    • Adam says:

If a patriot slapped me in the face I would just have to turn the other cheek I suppose.

I’m not really getting your rant about Democracy versus Republic, though. Who brought that up?

I laugh at your fake outrage that has you and Big Dog strutting around pretending you are part of some great movement to free the country from the tyranny of the fairly elected Congressional majority and the fairly elected President of the United States.

    • Darrel says:

VIC: “…just for your information this country is not a Democracy (rule of the will of the people). It is a Republic…>>

      DAR
I’ve seen this a lot. For some reason some on the right (maybe it’s a dittohead thing?) like to go on about this as if they are saying something profound and intelligent. They should stop it already. It just makes them look like they don’t know that our representative system of government is a FORM, a subset, of DEMOCRACY.

It’s like saying “just for your information, that’s not a car, it’s a vehicle!” A car is a type of vehicle, and our republic is a type of democracy.

      D.

      • Blake says:

Saying that our government is a Republic, is just defining the subset for all you idiot progressives out there.
Think of it like the difference between calling a serpent a “snake” (generic “democracy”), or defining it as a rattlesnake.
There is a difference in how you define things, such as calling someone a Democrat (leans left)- or a scum- sucking “Progressive- traitor to this country.
        Which are you?

  3. Blake says:

So the ad should have just said, “Illiterates vote for Coakley”, and then the spelling could remain the same.
Seriously, Spell check is only as good as the illiterate liberal who remembers to use it.

    • Adam says:

And Blake knows a thing or two about illiteracy. After all he is from Texas, one of the worst states in the Union for literacy rates.

      • Blake says:

Gee Adam- I guess you are one of the scum-sucking progressives I was just talking about- My intellect is above yours I am sure- or you would not be taking the positions you do.
        Pity-
        You coulda been a contender.

  4. Darrel says:

    “…Coakley Makes A Big Mistake”

    DAR
A TV production person types a word wrong in the small print at the end of an ad.

    This is a “Big Mistake.”

    Somebody’s getting a little desperate!

    • Adam says:

I think a big mistake is like vetting your candidates on the google and then thinking Sarah Palin was a good idea for VP. Typos in ads don’t even make that list…

  5. Big Dog says:

Ah yes, that subset idea. Republics and Democracies have many things in common and our form is often termed a Representative Democracy but the fact is the Constitution says all states are guaranteed a Republican form of government and not a Democratic one. I do not think a republic is a subset of a democracy. A Republic has a very different purpose than a Democracy.

There is a reason for that.

A republic and a democracy are identical in every aspect except one. In a republic the sovereignty is in each individual person. In a democracy the sovereignty is in the group.

    Link

In a republic each individual has sovereignty and in a democracy it lies in the group. This is an important distinction that our Founders wanted.

This explains where I was coming from and also shows which way we are headed if things don’t turn around.

  7. Adam says:

I don’t get the need to beat a dead horse over this. No one even mentioned democracy and Victoria just felt the need to lecture more unpatriotic liberals I guess.

It’s almost like you want to argue the US is a republic and not a democracy in order to make it seem like Republicans are better than Democrats. Given your side’s need to align everything they do with patriotism and defense of the country this doesn’t surprise me one bit.

You pretend that a constitutional republic is so completely different than a democracy that to suggest the US is a democracy is on par with suggesting the US is a monarchy. This is a strange argument.

    • Big Dog says:

Nice way to deflect but no one is suggesting that the Republican party acts any more like a republic than the Democrats who mostly act like socialists.

Republicans act like God knows what.

Though the Republicans are more in tune with national security conservatives are actually more in line with the Constitution.

A democracy and a republic are vastly different and republic was chosen for a good reason.

No one suggested anything about a monarchy.

      • Adam says:

“No one suggested anything about a monarchy.”

And no one suggested the US wasn’t a republic so I guess that makes us even.

I’m not sure what you consider a deflection though.

      • Darrel says:

Bigd quote: “A republic and a democracy are identical in every aspect except one.”

Now: “A democracy and a republic are vastly different…”

        DAR
        Nice.

A constitutional republic is just one of the many forms of democracy. It’s pretty obvious that no one means pure democracy when they simply use the term “democracy.” If anyone really believes this (and they don’t) then they should have wrote Bush a note when he was talking about “the spread of democracy.”

        • Big Dog says:

That was not my quote Darrel. It came from the link. But the one difference makes them vastly different. chocolate and vanilla ice cream have all the same ingredients except one.

          They are vastly different.

        • Darrel says:

Bigd: “That was not my quote Darrel.”>>

          DAR
I know, that’s why I specifically said Bigd “quote.”

Bigd: “chocolate and vanilla ice cream have all the same ingredients except one.>>

          DAR
Actually that’s not remotely true (would you like me to list them?), but I understand what you were trying for.

It boils down to this, either:

          1) The US has a system of government that is NOT a form of democracy.

          2) the US has a system of government that IS a form of democracy

If number one is true, you have a point. If number two is true, you don’t.

Number two is true, number one is false. You have no point and everyone who *tries* to make this silly semantic point, has no point.

          D.

  8. victoria says:

Adam your the one who brought up patriotism in your first post. Albeit under the belief
that you and Darrel and your ilk are also
patriots, I guess by the mere fact that you live in this country because it is sure not because of your beliefs and values and your readiness and willingness to die to keep this country safe and free. You don’t even recognize tyranny when you see it.

    • Adam says:

I never said, nor tried to imply that I consider myself a patriot or Darrel for that matter. Far from it in fact. You’ve just imagined all that just like you imagined somebody was calling the US a pure democracy.

I’m not the one who aligns my views with partisan, racist “tea party” fanatics masquerading as a non-partisan political movement. I’m not the one who thinks the GOP winning MA on the 19th will be a “shot heard ’round the world” as if it will spark a revolution against evil.

I don’t know about tyranny but I recognize a bunch of sore losers when I see them. You don’t like our leadership? Fine, vote them out. Just don’t go running around like you are patriots sparking a revolution against the tyranny that is the democratically elected president and congress.

      • Big Dog says:

Adam, the reference to shot heard round the world was an indication that a Brown win would cause a lot of uneasiness in the Democrat party because massachusetts has been a stronghold for decades. There was no implication nor did I say that it was a revolution at least not in the normal sense of the word. If he wins and it leads to a big shakeup un Congress then it will be a revolution of sorts.

You might be far from a patriot but I am a patriot and I think the government is engaging in tyranny and it has been moving in this direction for a long time. The will of the people is not being heard. We are turning into a democracy instead of staying a republic. When our elected leaders go against the will of the people and make claims that we will gorw to like this or that they are being tyrants.

        • Adam says:

What is the will of the people that is not being heard? After lecturing on the difference between a pure democracy and a constitutional republic are you really going to sit there and argue that, for example, Congress passing a health care bill that only a 53% majority oppose is some form of tyranny? Or does your idea of the will of the people extend much further than that?

          • Big Dog says:

No Adam, I am going to say that passing the bill no one wants and cap and trade that people do not want and the stimulus that most opposed and the TARP that most opposed and all the social programs that are unfunded and bankrupting us for which they will take more of our money is the form of tyranny.

One drop of water is harmless. If I took an eye dropper and dripped a few drops on your face and I told you I was torturing you you would laugh. If I used a 5 gallon bucket and waterboarded you then YOU would say I am torturing you. One program, a bad thing, multiple ones is tyranny.

            • Adam says:

I notice you don’t list the Iraq war. I guess you don’t think it’s tyranny when you support something the vast majority of the public is against?

            • Big Dog says:

The vast majority was not against it when it started and the majority that opposes came long after we were there. It would be unfair to saddle the current or past administration with the idea that they went to war against the will of the people based on the feelings now as opposed to when it started.

I also did not include Obama’s 30,000 additional troops which is not well received because he is obligated to either send the troops to do the job or bring them all home. It would not be fair to include that when he is doing what needs to be done to support the troops especially since he was just a child when the war started.

            • Darrel says:

Bigd: “since he [Obama] was just a child when the [Afghanistan] war started.”>>

              DAR
That reminds me. Observe the difference in how and adult, and a child, respond to a question about taking responsibility:

“Ultimately, the buck stops with me. And when the system fails, it is my responsibility.” — Obama, acting like a man

“Hmm. I wish you had given me this written question ahead of time so I could plan for it. Ahhh… I’m sure historians will look back and say gosh we could have done it better this way or that way. Ahhh. You know I just, ahhh, I’m sure something will pop into my head here…with all the pressure of trying to come up with an answer but it hadn’t yet….”
              — Bush in 2004, acting like a child

So nice to have an adult in the White House.

            • Blake says:

Who is the Adult? Andy Stern? Emanuel?

            • Blake says:

The “vast majority” has not been against the war, just as O’bamma doesn’t “have a mandate”- when he is capable of winning 49 out of 50 states, then yes, he will have a “mandate”- until then, he is gonna have to go all “Brokeback Mountain” in order to have a “Man date”.

  9. Big Dog says:

I guess it depends on how you make your ice cream. I assume you know there is more than one recipe.

It boils down to there is a difference between the two and we have the one we do because of the difference.

  10. Big Dog says:

The buck ULTIMATELY stops with me. Ultimately means eventually. As in, once it goes through all my lackeys it ends up with me.

Adult, get real. He has blamed Bush for all his failings. He is no adult. He is a narcissistic child who gets his feeling hurt when the big boys pick on him.

Obama uses teleprompters so that he is prepared for questions. His folks funnel the answers to him electronically. I think it is funny how you defend him.

You have a man crush on Obama.
