How Did Janet Napolitano Get Her Job?

It is unfortunate that many government jobs are given by appointment because Janet Napolitano, Director of Homeland Security, is unqualified to hold the position to which she was appointed. In the last two weeks she has done some amazingly stupid things.

About two weeks ago, and just before the TEA Parties, the DHS released its report on radical rightwing extremist groups which basically described all conservatives but threw in baseless accusations such as we are angry at a black man being elected president. The report targets returning veterans as potential extremists. This is a fine way to classify those who have the testicular fortitude to fight for this country.

Then, Napolitano made the statement that the 9/11 terrorists entered this country by crossing the Canadian border. This is absolutely incorrect. They flew into this country on documents issued by the State Department (and a few had MARYLAND driver’s licenses because Maryland gives them to everyone). Though she claims to have been misunderstood, it was quite clear what she said. She also tried to claim she was referring to a long debunked urban legend. She is full of bovine excrement.

The furor began when Napolitano was asked to clarify statements she had made about equal treatment for the Mexican and Canadian borders, despite the fact that a flood of illegal immigrants and a massive drug war are two serious issues on the southern border.

“Yes, Canada is not Mexico, it doesn’t have a drug war going on, it didn’t have 6,000 homicides that were drug-related last year,” she said.

“Nonetheless, to the extent that terrorists have come into our country or suspected or known terrorists have entered our country across a border, it’s been across the Canadian border. There are real issues there.”

When asked if she was referring to the 9-11 terrorists, Napolitano added: “Not just those but others as well.” [emphasis mine] CTV.ca

One would think the Director of the DHS might know the truth about the 9/11 terrorists. One might also think that she would know there is a big difference between the northern and southern borders. In the south, people sneak across illegally and stay here. They smuggle in drugs and they kill Americans. In the north, they come across, do business, and go home. They enter legally. Yes, some people have entered illegally via the northern border but nowhere near the scale that they do in the south.

The issue of the border brings us to ILLEGAL immigration. Napolitano is a little fuzzy when it comes to this topic as well. She seems to think that crossing the border illegally is not a crime. During an interview with CNN’s John King, Napolitano was discussing Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his quest to enforce the immigration laws. After she dismissed his efforts she said:

“What we have to do is target the real evil-doers in this business, the employers who consistently hire illegal labor, the human traffickers who are exploiting human misery.

“And yes, when we find illegal workers, yes, appropriate action, some of which is criminal, most of that is civil, because crossing the border is not a crime per se. It is civil. But anyway, going after those as well.” [emphasis mine]NewsMax

As the cited article points out, crossing the border is a crime punishable with a fine, jail time, or both. I am no lawyer but I believe that once an illegal is here and is caught it is a civil issue. Crossing the border is the felony. This is the dilemma. We know they committed a felony to get here but if we do not catch them actually crossing the border, it is a civil issue.

I have equated it to a man robbing a bank. If he robs the bank and gets away and a day later the cops find him spending the money, he has dye on his hands and his admits to the robbery, he is still guilty of a felony. Imagine if it were only a felony if they caught him robbing the bank but it was a civil issue if they caught him later. This is the insanity involved in our immigration laws.

Napolitano is one of the people who is supposed to protect the country but she is more interested in going after a law enforcement officer who is trying to uphold the law than the criminals who are breaking it (regardless of her “tough” rhetoric).

She thinks people who have conservative beliefs are rightwing extremists, that the 9/11 terrorists entered through Canada, and that crossing our border illegally is not a crime.

Like I said, it is unfortunate that these positions are political appointments because she has demonstrated that she is incompetent.

She should be relieved of her duties and replaced with someone who knows what he is doing.

Then again, she is what Obama wants. Someone who will be an advocate for the illegals.

Obama wants them as Democratic voters.

This is a problem not just with respect to Mz. Napolitano, who, despite being a former governor of a border state, (arizona), knows absolutely nothing about illegal immigration.
This is all about politics, not running a government. There’s a BIG difference there- kinda like the difference between the law, and justice. People who know the law, can circumvent justice. Most of the best politicians (ooh, what an oxymoron), know how to get elected, but they have no real world experience in how to run a business, or handle employees or actually work within a budget.
Mz. Napolitano falls in this category- clueless but loyal.
Every politician wants to surround themselves with their friends- why they think that way, when in politics there ARE no friends, is beyond me.
Harry Truman once said, “If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.”
Sasha and Mahlia got one. Barama will have to be satisfied with the likes of Joe Biden and Janet (from another Planet) Napolitano. Good doggies. (don’t piddle in the Oval Office.

  2. All who were left scratching their heads when Obama chose this obedient toady to head Homeland Security now can get a handle on it: a serious choice who would have been focused upon real terrorist threats (not imaginary, partisan ones i.e. the TEA parties)- like, say, a Rudolph Giuliani, wouldn’t have been a willing collaborator in such a sham report trashing US vets as right-wing nuts about to start a revolution.

Napolitano’s qualifications for this job were simply being a left-wing Obama sycophant… certainly not any skills, insights, or ability.

Her statements on the Canadian border illustrate how incompetent and confused she is- Neopolitano completely lacks the credentials to be in-charge of protecting our country from the likes of Al Qaida.

Trouble is, the narcissist Obama needs to be surrounded by mindless drones to confirm his omnipotence and pollyanna world view. Such appointments as Napolitano and Panetta to vital national security jobs are a show of weakness that will surely encourage the terrorists who see America as their enemy… no matter how often Obama tries to surrender.

And anyone who expected Barack to place the nation’s practical defense interests above those of his own political security and radical agenda hasn’t really looked at how he got this far in the first place.

“She should be relieved of her duties and replaced with someone who knows what he is doing.”

How many times did Bush say stupid and inaccurate things for which you called for relieving him of his duties? Oh, none?

Maybe your problem is not that she is doing a bad job but that she is a she. Notice how you want her to be replaced with someone who knows what “he” is doing. Bad choice of words or a glimpse into a larger issue you have with outspoken women in positions of authority?

    • Blake says:

Adam, its just like you to focus on a small piece of language, such as gender, instead of the larger picture, her ignorance.
She is supposed to be in charge of our security, which, thew last time I checked, included our borders. You might think that coming from a border state, she would know better.
She is just ignorant, as is virtually everyone on Posse Barama.
But what do you expect from people I wouldn’t hire to wash my car.
None of them could find their own butt with both hands and a map.
You want us to say something bad about Bush, but you can’t even say that this woman should not even be close to a government job?
How intellectually honest are you being, Adam?

      • Adam says:

        Blake:

When you find actual reasons to say Napolitano is ignorant and isn’t doing a good job let me know. Saying she misspoke about 9/11 terrorists and border law and falsely saying the report she released on right wing extremism is targeted at normal Americans just reveals how petty and partisan you can be.

        • Adam says:

And it’s just like me to do what? I can’t help it if Big Dog has a history of sexist attacks on women politicians and celebrities that dare hold office or speak for themselves without spouting conservative talking points. When I see him making weak ass arguments against Napolitano then I must assume it is one again not the job she is doing so much but more that she is a woman and a Democrat.

          • Big Dog says:

Big Dog does not have a history of sexist attacks. He has a history of what Adam believes to be sexist attacks. Let us take for example, his rant about this post. Adam assumes that because I used the word he I do not think a woman should be doing the job and he calls it a poor choice of words.

This is Adam’s perceived sexism. But let’s get to the truth of the matter.

I don’t expect Adam to know this because of public school education but the sentence is grammatically correct. In the English language items must agree in number and the masculine gender is used when there is only one. Therefore, since someone is singular then a singular pronoun HE is used. Saying “…replaced with someone who knows what they are doing” is grammatically incorrect.

I wrote the sentence the way I did because it is the correct way to write it in the English language. I don’t expect people wth public school education to understand that and since English is not our official language it is too much to expect for people to understand this.

However, I made no mistake and I was not sexist. I wrote it in accordance with the rules of the English language.

Since Adam is a liberal and a public school grad, he failed to recognize the correct usage and immediately went for the sexism angle. Garofalo equates all conservatives to racists and Adam has to follow suit and use sexism as the rant.

Learn the language and then you will know why things are written as they are.

        • Mike Radigan says:

Homeland Security is one of only a very few where a man should head it without argument. Why? Because it SHOULD require a military background and outside of Condoleezza Rice I cannot think of any woman who has any military security background. And I don’t think Obama is about to appoint Rice. Adam, can you name one other qualified woman?

        • Blake says:

If I thought she was competent, I would say so- the only way I am being “petty and partisan” is in looking at the poor choices Barry has made. This speaks to his character, and poor judgement of people.
But of course, as you undoubtedly know, he has a history of that doesn’t he, with all that inconvenient Bill Ayers and Rev. Wright stuff. You know what they say- lie down with a pig, you get up dirty.

        • Big Dog says:

She did not misspeak, she did not know. There is a big difference. If she knew and said it then it would be misspeaking. She said it as fact becauyse she did not know. She did not misspeak about border law, she did not know. She is unaware of the law that governs our sovereignty.

The report is straight forward. It says if you are on the right you are a person who is part of a hate group, that if you believe that state government should decide rather than federal, if you oppose abortion or illegal immigration you are part of this group. It is a hit piece aimed at squashing dissent. I know you can dismiss it but explain why the FBI was out looking at all the TEA parties and taking video. Did they do that to Code Pinko or the other anti war groups? If they had you and the ACLU would be screeching about rights.

She calls terrorism a man made disaster. She is clueless and her report disparages veterans. She should go. They should replace her with someone who knows what he is doing. That is a grammatically correct statement, in case you have not learned yet.

        • Blake says:

Actual reasons? She said that the terrorists had crossed the Northern border- false- they had overstayed their visas, but some had drivers licenses.
She believes illegal immigration is a civil issue- it is not, it is straight up criminal.
And as a former governor, she should have known that- so she is incompetent.

  5. MAS1916 says:

Napalitano probably offered the greatest potential among Democrat leaders to take attention away from the President’s terrible economic vision. She has proven worthy of this distinction.

Releasing a memo purporting to be a threat assessment against ordinary Americans – right before the Tea Parties, reveals her to be nothing more than another leftist hack.

But.. she is fulfilling her job description.

  6. Barbara says:

Well, we can all enjoy venting for now, no matter what side you are on, because the hate bill is in the Senate, I understand, and that is will most likely go through with Obama joyously waiting to sign it. He and his cronies just can’t take the heat. It was explained this morning how they can adjust charges against a person that would violate our 1st Admendment rights.

    • Blake says:

Yea, Adam- the one MoveOn is trying to shove up our a$$, concerning actions and advice people may have given the Bush Administration in dealing with detainees. King Barama needs to give serious thought to this action, for one day the pitchforks will be after him if he goes down this road. It’s amazing how quickly the tide can turn when you don’t know what you are doing. If he lets himself get led by the nose by MoveOn and that Gerbil abuser Soros, he will deserve what he gets.

  7. Adam says:

Take to the streets folks! Obama is ruining our country and the people are figuring that out! Oh wait…no they’re not:

WASHINGTON – Millions of people jobless. Billions of dollars in bailouts. Trillions of dollars in U.S. debt. And yet, for the first time in years, more Americans than not say the country is on the right track.

In a sign that Barack Obama has inspired hopes for a brighter future in the first 100 days of his presidency, an Associated Press-GfK poll shows that 48 percent of Americans believe the United States is headed in the right direction — compared with 44 percent who disagree.

    Welcome to the sideline.

    • Big Dog says:

A 4% difference is no big deal and the report indicates that many people are worried and indicate they think we are on the right track because more people are being forced to save.

It has been 100 days. I think this is the let’s give him a chance mentality and it reflects a bunch of people who supported him and can’t force themselves to admit that they might have been wrong. The AP is one such organization.

100 days Adam. Sideline? Let’s see what the numbers are when the dollar is inflated and things are much worse. We cannot pay the debt we have incurred. It is impossible and continuing in this fashion will collapse the entire economic system. There is no way to pay the money. Let us see what those numbers are in a year or two.

And the poll indicates he has inspired more people for a brighter future. That does not mean there is a brighter future, just that people have been inspired to believe it. He is a good talker and reality has not set in with the crowd who believes that government is the solution. It is the problem. Government caused most of this.

Remember Adam and his comment a year from now. Let’s see what he says then.

      • Big Dog says:

The other thing is, what happened to the 8% that did not answer?

      • Adam says:

The +4% means a lot when you consider it is up 31 points since October.

Again with the inflation? You act like the Federal Reserve doesn’t have ways of increasing and decreasing inflation.

        • Big Dog says:

The Federal Reserve’s manipulation of the economy and thwarting inflation is what causes the problems. Whatever they do is only temporary. If the FR could stop inflation Carter would have had it under control. The prime rate is below 1%. They cannot drop it lower. Perhaps you should read about inflation and see what it is, where it comes from, and how it happens before you make these foolish statements.

I can’t say I am surprised. You want government to artificially manipulate the economy to help people. If we let things run their course there is less pain.

The FR reduces rates so banks borrow real cheap. Since they can do that they do not need to pay you much for your savings. It is a big scam and it causes problems.

When we see that inflation I want you to come here and tell me that I was right.

        • Big Dog says:

In October they were gearing up for an election. They had to make it dire to win (all of them) so they could be the ones to save us. Turns out it was not as dire as they said.

        • Big Dog says:

Let us also not forget that the toadies are thrilled with him. 100 days and they are saying he is the greatest president ever? Come now, the guys who were first were much better and he has a long way to go before we say greatest.

He is more Carter than anyone and we know he was the worst of all time.

        • Adam says:

So because they can’t drop interest rates lower they can’t control inflation? If that’s what you’re saying you couldn’t be more wrong…

        • Blake says:

Adam, the numbers are in, and Pres. Bush did better than Barama in the first 100 days,62% vs. 64% for Bush.
Also, 46% think govt. is not too big, 53% believe that govt. is too big.
62% feel govt. is out of control.
Oh, the Fed really doesn’t have a way to control inflation- like a monkey, they throw stuff at a wall and see if it sticks.

    • Blake says:

Trillions of dollars in debt- now Watch as the Miraculous Barama Quadruples it, yes, Quadruples it, and claims a net reduction.
How DID he pass math, Adam?

  8. Blake says:

A 4% difference in yea or nay- wow- the other 8% probably thought the polling people were liberal and would skew the number, and just hung up.

  9. Adam says:

I got three little words that’s are gonna rock your world, man: “he or she”

Does it hurt to be so wrong all the time?

    • Big Dog says:

I have a few words for you. he or she is non standard and awkward. It is not the way our language is written. You can be part of the he/she crowd but I am not.

I try to write the way our language is intended to be written.

That should rock your world. Maybe not, you are a lib and the libs never follow the rules.

And Adam, if you can show me where I am wrong then we can talk. You will lose any argument on this topic.

  10. Big Dog says:

Not being able to manipulate interest rates is one way to postpone inflation but there will be few tools available to stop it. They are printing money which devalues it. If the FR could control inflation it would never occur but the reality is they can only postpone it. Eventually it will happen and it will be bad.

I don’t want to argue about it. You obviously know it all and the inflation that has occurred in the past was just a series of flukes.

When inflation hits, like many economists say it will, you will then understand the limits of the FR. OK, maybe you won’t but it does not matter because there will be inflation.

    Mark my words.

    • Adam says:

I just saw the 2nd in command of the Federal Reserve speak in person this week on inflation among other topics and he feels pretty confident that they can handle whatever level of inflation comes out of this. But really why should I believe him and not you, right? What does he know that you don’t know?

      • Big Dog says:

        Yeah Adam,
A government guy telling you the truth. They forced banks to take money to prevent a run, they lowered rates to head off inflation, they are printing a lot of money and saying it will not matter, they are hiding the stress tests to keep the market from responding and some of the officials in government have been involved in fraud with stimulus money (someone hid financial troubles so a company could be bought by another), so why believe them,

He feels confident. Well that is all it takes for a lib, how someone feels. They felt confident they could stave off inflation when Carter was president.

Believe who you want. When we have a lot of inflation, which many economists and business people are predicting then we will see who you should have listened to.

You can listen to whom you wish. I am protecting my money, are you? If you are then you don’t believe them either.

        All is well…

      • Blake says:

I find this amusing, in that it used to be the liberals who distrusted government, and here is Adam, blithely believing the toady of Geithner who is denying the dangers of what they are doing.
Now Adam, judging from your picture, you are younger than I, so I have seen a little more, plus, I study history and the economic cycles we have gone through, and this is going to be bad.
As Dog said, if you are protecting your money, you don’t believe it either- if not, well you will get an unpleasant surprise.

  11. Big Dog says:

Adam commented that I jump all over Napolitano for making a mistake, you know misspeaking and did not call for Bus’s firing when he did the same.

No, Bush was elected, and Napolitano appointed. There is a difference between misspeaking and not knowing what you are talking about.

Funny, any time Bush misspoke or made a mistake the left call him a chimp and said he was a moron blah, blah. Napolitano gets a pass from them. How come she is not a chimp or a moron?

Curious George Obama is a gifted speaker but he is not a leader. But Adam and his libs will never EVER recognize any shortcomings on behalf of their messiah.
