Honoring Our Nation’s Fallen Heroes

This Memorial Day we honor the memories of those who have fallen in the service of our country. They gave willingly so that others, who they did not know, may live in freedom. We are blessed to be the greatest nation on Earth and we are the greatest because of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in our name. I know there are those who feel that war is never the answer but I know there are things worth fighting for. In my old armory there was a quote hanging on the wall. This is that quote:

“War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.” —John Stuart Mill

This quote is so true and Mill hit it on the head. Thank God we have people who are ready to do harm in our name so that we might be free.
