He Said What?

No matter where you stand on the Terri Schiavo case you have to laugh at the stupidity of the lawyer who represents her husband. He was evidently upset that Governor Bush was seeking to take Schiavo into protective custody and this is what the jackass said:

“It saddens me greatly that we have to run to court to get court orders to protect Terri Schiavo from the abuse of the state of Florida,” he said. “The conduct of the executive branch of the state of Florida has been reprehensible in this case.”

Here is an idiot who fought to have a feeding tube removed which will ultimately lead to a painful death saying that he needs to get court orders to protect Terri from the abuse of the state of Florida.

My question is, who is trying to save Terri from the abuse from the husband and his ambulance chasing lawyer?

No matter where you stand on this one you have to wonder what this genius was smoking when he came up with that line. I guess trying to feed a starving person is abuse. Perhaps we can stop all the social welfare programs designed to feed the needy. We wouldn’t want to abuse them, now would we?

Stupid indeed! Of course, no more stupid than the “Save Terri” supporters that are now issuing death threats to legislators that didn’t act favorably towards them. As you know, I consider myself pro-life. But, the whole argument falls to dust when you’re willing to sacrifice lives to save lives.

Agreed! I put them up there with the anti-abortionists who kill abortion doctors. Though, if you had a choice of who should go, Terri or a politician…..

It reminds me of the Jewel lyrics “They say that abortion will send you straight to firery hell. That is if the fanatics don’t beat Satan to thekilll…”

On the subject of stopping social programs that feed the needy, Bush is doing a great job of that. Our nation is ranked 2nd only to Mexico in child poverty of industrialized nations. Nifty.

There are, unfortunately, fanatics attached to every issue — including those embraced by you Liberals. Have you heard the tapes FNC ran regarding Planned Parenthood representatives that were actively telling potentially clients — children (adults posing as children) — how to circumvent the statutory rape laws? (Maybe it’s an unfair question as you Libs don’t prefer your news “Fair and Balanced.”) That’s as bad as the fanatical right-to-lifers whom threaten clinic personnel. In fact, it’s worse because a threat is not breaking the law.

You Liberals just want to blame Bush for everything that’s wrong with this world. When the Clintons were in office (yes, I used the plural intentionally) you were whinning about the “vast right-wing conspiracy” that was unjustly flagellating Bill Clinton. Once again, we have the “Do as I say, not as I do” mentality.

Perhaps a bit of geography is in order here. Where is Mexico located? Just below the borders of the USA, you say? Could there be a correlation? Well, with the recent estimate of 18 million illegal aliens running around our country, I bet a good many of them are children. Seems Mexico is exporting more than Kahlua these days. Yes, we are the ungrateful beneficiary of Mexico’s burgeoning population. We are literally getting the tired, poor and homeless.

In essence, our status is not a reflection of Bush and his policies. Our status is a reflection of our generosity to welcome those who want to come here for a better life. However, they should be doing it LEGALLY.

Lately, the good ole US of A has become better known for it’s hand-outs than giving a “hand up.” Where do you think that problem originated?

  6. Adam says:

I’ve found no evidence to suggest our child poverty rate has to do with Mexico. It’s something to think about though. I’ll look it up when I have more time later or maybe you can find something for me.

  7. Big Dog says:

I would imagine that it depends upon how one defines poverty. In America the average person living in poverty has things that would make impoverished people in other countries seem rich.

Not solely with Mexico. I live in a rural area that requires migrant workers to pick the apple orchards. Many are illegal — all rely on the local agencies for support. The truth is the apples would be too expensive to pick without them. The other truth is they drain local food banks and social services. It’s that double-edge sword thing that always bites you in the a$$. California also has a huge problem with this situation.

And, I didn’t really mean to imply it’s just illegals from Mexico — although I think they play a large part. The fact is that almost every “alien,” legal or illegal starts near the bottom of the food chain. (Sometimes, we even get the cast off from dictatorships. People that end up in the system one way or the other.) Most are trying to escape even worse poverty in other countries. Until just this year, the US always topped the list of countries receiving emigration applications. My point is our ranking is not amazing given these facts.

    However, here’s a non-partisan link for you.
