Giuliani Is A Classy Guy But That Does Not Excuse Clinton

Many in the blogosphere have written about the recent movie The Path to 9/11 and the interview on Fox in which Bill Clinton lost his mind. From what I have read, most liberal sites try to completely exonerate Clinton and place full blame on Bush while the conservative sites indicate, as dis The Path, that there was enough blame to go around. Rudy Giuliani had a different tact and I agree with him in principle:

“The idea of trying to cast blame on President Clinton is just wrong for many, many reasons, not the least of which is I don’t think he deserves it,” Giuliani said in response to a question after an appearance with fellow Republican Charlie Crist, who is running for governor. “I don’t think President Bush deserves it. The people who deserve blame for Sept. 11, I think we should remind ourselves, are the terrorists – the Islamic fanatics – who came here and killed us and want to come here again and do it.”
~snip~
“Every American president I’ve known would have given his life to prevent an attack like that. That includes President Clinton, President Bush,” the former mayor said. “They did the best they could with the information they had at the time.” My Way News

I agree that we should keep in mind that the people really responsible for the attacks are the terrorists who planned and executed them. I do not necessarily agree with the second statement because I think that Clinton would send someone else to die for him. I still believe, and the history bears out, that Clinton had many opportunities to take out bin Laden and failed to do so. he also made us look weak with regard to Somalia. Having stated that, I still think there was enough blame to go around and that members of each administration missed clues that might have prevented the attack.

Contrary to many nuts out there, I do not believe that Bush planned or allowed 9/11 to happen or that it was an inside job and I don’t think Clinton would have done such a thing either. In all reality, many folks are up in arms because Clinton engaged in finger-pointing and tried to completely wash his hands of any culpability for the attacks. He had many opportunities and did not take the chance to get OBL when he had it. In all fairness though, it has been five years and Bush has not gotten him either. At the rate we are going OBL will probably die of some disease before we can capture or kill him.

It is much easier for Clinton to lie and try to rewrite history than to act like a man and admit that he made bad judgements. He does not even have to admit that he refused to kill OBL given the chance because many in this country, especially those who forgave him for the no sex lie, would forgive him for being inept at killing a terrorist handed to him on a platter. But Clinton finds it easy to lie because the Democrats in Congress continue to help him out by asking why Bush has failed to get OBL while ignoring Clinton’s inability or unwillingness to do the same. Hillary asked the question; “How hard is it to find the tallest man in Afghanistan?” Given that she could not find her Rose Law Firm billing records (the ones she carried with her until the statute of limitations ran out), that she could not find an intern under the desk, and that she continually claimed not to know what her husband was up to with regard to his many transgressions, I think she is the last person who should ask about finding OBL. Couple this with the claim by Dick Morris that she favored immediately removing our troops from Somalia (and Bill did just that) and we have a woman who has no credibility in the issue.

Giuliani put it much better than I did and with much more tact. That does not take away from the fact that Clinton is not blameless in the attacks on this country and that he does not deserve to be called on the carpet when he lies or distorts his record.
