Freedom Means For All No Matter What We Think About It

Freedom of religions and expression is for everyone no matter what others think of what is expressed…

There is an NBA player named Dion Waiters who refuses to stand for the National Anthem. He claims that as a Muslim it violates his religion. I don’t know how it could but I am not a Muslim and it is not my place to judge or interpret his religion so long as what he does in no way infringes on my rights or the rights of others.

The fact is he has a right not to stand for the National Anthem and if he chooses to exercise that right it is his business. A lot of people do not agree and have been calling him out and that is their right as well but the one thing they can’t and shouldn’t try to do is force him to comply.

This is Veteran’s Day, a day when we honor those who have served this nation. We served to protect the rights of the citizens of this great nation and that means that sometimes folks will do things within their rights that we don’t like. When they do it means veterans did their jobs and did them well.

It might not go over well that I feel this way but freedom is for everyone no matter what they choose to do or not to do so long as they don’t hurt or bother someone else. I don’t like the fact that he will not stand to pay tribute to the nation that allowed him to succeed and gave him all the opportunities in the world BUT I will die defending his right to do just that.

I think it is a dishonor to the nation when people do not stand for the National Anthem particularly when there are so many veterans who can’t stand at all BUT the reality is freedom means people get to choose things that others might not like and when they do those things without fear of punishment it affirms that our veterans have done their jobs well.

People do not have to like what this guy does (that is THEIR right) but if they are unwilling to tolerate his right to do as he wishes (in this case based on his religious beliefs) then those folks have no claim when their rights are violated.

When one of us loses our freedom we all lose our freedom…

Cave canem!
Never surrender, never submit.

Funny over in Muslim countries-you don’t believe the way they do, you die. If there was enough of them in this country sharia would be instituted here so fast it would make your head swim. I personally don’t think our veterans fought for this sort of thing, in fact it is an insult to them-everything that is being done in the name of political correctness so we don’t insult some muslim here or there right now. Can you imagine what would have happened during WWII if we weren’t allowed to name the name of Nazism andcall it for what it is or was. There is only one religion that i know of that calls for the death of unbelievers and that is it. It is not a religion of peace like the political idiots here say and it’s time people wake up and see that. Christians rights are being trampled on all over this country and by people in govt who have no right and would on the same token not do a thing to Muslims. Everyone screams seperation of church and state right now when it comes to school but some of these same schools are teaching students about the religion of Islam but ordering students not to pray or bring a Bible. They have been slicing the heads off Americans lately and they would come here and do it to you if they could and this basketball player, I would just about say agrees with jihad or his allegiance would be with this country.

And the very fact that their countries kill if you think differently shows how important freedom is and why this nation s so great. Like I said, he is free to do what he wants as long as it does not hurt anyone else. Let him jihad and all bets would be off. As for the bad stuff, yep it happens and many in this country allow it but bad behavior by one group does not justify bad behavior by another.

In its purest form Islam is a fascist top down political system. As such should not be a “protected religion.” Mosques are houses of seditious political action. On one end you have what this basketball player is doing and on the other you have the Fort Hood shooting and numerous “lone wolf killings” as of late. we have incompetent lawmakers telling us that our constitution renders us powerless to do anything when in fact the constitution and declaration gives us the power to stop it. Islam stands for submission and complete surrender and is about complete dominance and masquerades as a monotheistic religion. We didn’t have a problem recognizing communism, Marxism, or socialism but we can’t see this because of the disguise and our incompetent leaders now.

I do not disagree with what you say I only contend that what the basketball player is doing harms no one and he is not demanding others to do it as well. It matters not why he does not want to do it only that he has the right not to and is harming no one when he does it. That is quite a bit different from the Fort Hood incident where a terrorist used his religious beliefs to harm others, an act I am sure you know I do not condone and do not think he has the freedom to do. Not standing for the Anthem, while repulsive to me, harms no one.

I hope you advocated as strongly for Hank Williams Jr when he used Hitler and Obama in the same sentence, or Tim tebows continued harassment, or the sports announcers who have made unfortunate comments and lost jobs. There are the real freedoms lost. This guy that you mention still has a job and Ihaven’t hheard a speck of media attention on this and I am sure no one is calling for him to lose his job because this country is upside down and real offenses go unpunished. I don’t mean to sound insulting but this person deserves no advocacy at the very least.

    • Big Dog says:

In fact I did advocate for those folks. Freedom is for everyone. The true hypocrites are those who are not calling for some action after protesting those you mention.

  4. victoria says:

I did not mean to sound like I was calling you a hypocrite.

I did not take it that way though my comment might have given that impression. I respect your opinion and I can see where you are coming from. I do not agree with a lot that goes on but in a free country people are allowed to do things that I might not like. I understand your perspective and agree with many points. In this particular instance I am just pointing out the guy has a right to do what he wants. He can burn a Flag if he wants. I would not like that but it is a protected freedom.

Thomas Jefferson once said, ‘if it neither breaks my leg, nor picks my pocket, it is no concern of mine.”
That pretty much sums up the term “Freedom” as it should apply in this country- there will always be people you disagree with, but their opinion still needs to be heard, if for no other reason than to know your enemy.
