Evan Bayh Throws In The Towel

This is shaping up to be a very bad year for Democrats. Despite requests from Barack Obama and Rahm Emanuel to reconsider, moderate Democrat Evan Bayh of Indiana will not seek reelection stating that he still has a desire to serve the people, just not in Congress.

Evidently, the hostile environment in Congress is becoming too much for the moderates. Bayh only voted with his party 71% of the time and I am willing to bet he got beat up over votes against the agenda or that he felt pressured to vote in a manner that he did not want.

Bayh’s decision comes as a surprise to many as it looked like he would probably win reelection. I doubt that the possibility of a tough race had anything to do with his decision. He probably is genuinely fed up with the atmosphere in Congress.

Bayh probably did not agree with the Obama agenda, or at least major protions of it. He endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.

Plus, he is a family man and likes to spend time with his children and attend their activities. No one can fault him for that.

Bayh’s decision caps off a trifecta that began when Christopher Dodd and Byron Dorgan announced last month that they will not seek reelection.

A commenter at the source site had a great point:

“To Democrats, I would remind you that we still have the largest majority in decades, and the people expect us to solve some problems, not run for the hills,” – Obama

Oh well.

Indiana is a conservative state and usually pretty red. Bayh is a well liked moderate but the state trends Republican. Obama won the state last year becoming the first Democrat to win it since Lyndon Johnson.

I bet the folks of Indiana have buyer’s remorse and will not go Democrat again for a long time. They are probably still asking what they have done…

Or maybe they are asking themselves the question Sarah Palin posed; “How’s that hopey-changey thing working out for ya?

Palin obviously needs an adult speech writer with talk like that. It’s a good thing she’s not a hearty-beaty away from the presidenty.

It’s possible there will be enough residual Blue Bayh left to put a Democrat back in office in the Senate there but it will be a tough sell. It just depends on what kind of person they run in his place and how things shape up for the Democrats in the next 10 months.

There are still more Republicans quitting than Democrats at this point but of course the GOP will have an easier time replacing GOP with GOP in most of those areas than the Dems will have replacing Dem with Dem.

Bill Maher noted that Palin’s crib notes on her hand to “cut taxes” were like…

Wile E. Coyote having the word “Roadrunner” written on his palm.

      • Adam says:

Somebody must have told Palin that was a good idea because I make fun of her for being dumb but I’m not so serious as to think she’s notes on the hand dumb.

I don’t get how Palin and others rip Obama for a teleprompter as if Palin wasn’t reading her speech off a piece of paper anyway. What’s the difference? There is none. Bottom of the barrel attacks on Obama…

        • Big Dog says:

Of course they are. It is always an attack on Obama, poor dear. That ghetto thug can’t handle the attacks. He is out of his league.

        • Blake says:

You could always rip Feinstein for writing notes on her hand during the California Governor’s debate (considering that was actually considered “cheating”- something Dems know all too well)- but somehow I guess you will give her a pass.
As for the TOTUS controversy, when you drag the TOTI(plural) into a sixth grade classroom, well you are an addict, as well as extemporaneously ignorant.

      • Big Dog says:

Perhaps a card would have been better but many folks who give major speeches write notes to make sure they hit all the points. It is easy to say what one should remember but once the speech starts it is easy to lose track. I am amazed that people focus on this and ignore the crutch that is the teleprompter.

Maher is a pussy and a moron. I would smack him just to watch him cry. I bet Palin could smack him and make him cry. But she is more of a man than he will ever be. Pussy.

    • Big Dog says:

I see, when Palin is folksy she needs and asult speech writer but when Obama is ghetto he is just cool and connecting.

      Your bias is showing.

      • Adam says:

“That ghetto thug can’t handle the attacks.”

Careful, you’re starting to sound racist again.

        “Your bias is showing.”

Right. When do you think Obama is “ghetto” anyway?

“I am amazed that people focus on this and ignore the crutch that is the teleprompter.”

Right, because nobody mentions the teleprompter. Ever. Not at all. Not one person. None. Sorry, but Obama like every politician uses a teleprompter. Palin wrote on her hands like a high school student and used phrases like “hopey-changey” and yet you still defend her…

        • Big Dog says:

Right, and cracker is not. Screw it, ghetto thug.

You know, it seems to me that you find fault with a woman who says hopey changey and ignore your guy, the smartest man in the world mind you, who says get cousin pookie off the couch and worries about getting all “wee-wee’d up.”

Let me hear you defend that while you talk about hopey changey.

        • Adam says:

I’m sorry that ‘cracker’ is just so tough on you. I didn’t mean to remind you of how hard it is to be white in America. I’m dearly sorry for that, honky.

I’m also sorry that you think that every word from black culture is “ghetto.” Wee-wee’d is silly but it’s also describing people like you so I see why you get offended.

        • Blake says:

When Owebama tries to sound Black, all he does is inspire my laughter- Really?
He was raised by white people- he is white, with a touch of sepia- and while he might have head problems from being from a mixed up and dysfunctional family, WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD, MR. RESIDENT.

  2. Big Dog says:

I did not get offended by wee wee’d but you sure got offended by hopey changey. I understand your frustration. You could never have a woman as beautiful as Palin, you will never be as successful as she and you libs have no women who are powerful, smart and good looking.

You have Helen Thomas and Hillary Clinton. I understand your frustration.

It is not tough to be black or white in America if you were raised properly, learned how to provide for yourself and not live off the government. When 70% of black homes are without a father then the problem lies in the black community and not because of racism.

You live in the past when the reality is, times are good here for black people.

But ask yourself, do you think they would have been better off if they had never come here? I know slavery was awful and brutal and wrong but if they had not come here, would their lives, TODAY, be better?

They would be living in Africa and there is no place there where they would be better off.

Plenty of opportunity and those of us who do not have low expectations or handicap them because of their color can see that. You racists who think they are not capable of making it on their own hold them down.

Just ask my fellow members at the NBRA

    • Adam says:

“…you sure got offended by hopey changey. I understand your frustration.”

Nope. It’s just another example of the train wreck that is Sarah Palin. Get your popcorn.

“You could never have a woman as beautiful as Palin…”

I guess it depends on what you mean by “have a woman.” I guess owning women is a conservative thing…

“But ask yourself, do you think they would have been better off if they had never come here?”

People who study the impact of slavery on Africa tend to agree that things were made worse in Africa because of the slave trade and to suggest we made their lives better today because of slavery is the biggest bunch of horse**** you’ve ever said. I pray you’re being sarcastic…

    • Darrel says:

ADAM: “to suggest we made their lives better today because of slavery is the biggest bunch of…”>>

      DAR
Actually Adam it’s a pretty common conservative line he’s regurgitating. The one I haven’t heard before is this howler about liberals fighting for slavery against conservative opposition. Now that one is… rather unique.

Michael Medved: Slavery Wasn’t That Bad

“Conservative Michael Medved writes a column explaining to us that slavery in America wasn’t that bad and that we need to just get over it and excise the idea that an entire race of people was held in bondage for hundreds of years in the land of the free.

I can’t figure out why there aren’t more black conservatives, what with scholarship like this.”

      Link.

      • Blake says:

Ask ANY Black person if they would like to go back to Africa, and you will get a Hell, no!
Slavery was bad, but if you look far enough back in history, you will find that EVERY civilization was subject to it, so virtually everyone had an ancestor who was a slave at one time or another. Get over it.
It is not that slavery was or was not that bad- that is a false argument- of course when people are held against their will it IS that bad.
But now the question becomes, ” If the ancestors of these Blacks had not been slaves, would their lives NOW be better, or worse?”
I think we truly know the answer to that one.

  3. Adam says:

“As for the TOTUS controversy, when you drag the TOTI(plural) into a sixth grade classroom, well you are an addict, as well as extemporaneously ignorant.”

When he spoke to the kids in the class he did not use it. When Obama makes a prepared speech to the press he usually uses a teleprompter. Get used to it.

“He was raised by white people- he is white…”

Of course he’s still black no matter who raised him. Even half black is the same as full black in America.

“I think we truly know the answer to that one.”

    Do we?
