Elizabeth Edwards Loses Battle With Cancer

Elizabeth Edwards, wife of one time Senator and two times presidential candidate John Edwards, died today after a long battle with cancer. Edwards was 61.

I, of course, did not know her personally but she seemed to be a sensible woman who dedicated her life to various causes. She endured quite a bit and her husband’s infidelity was pain on top of pain. She deserved better than that.

I send my heartfelt sympathies to her family, particularly her children, who must now deal with the grief of their loss. It is tough any time a loved one dies but it is particularly tough at this time of year.

May God bless those who she left behind.

Compassionate and well said, BD! I feel about the same way, and am especially in agreement with “…she deserved better than that “.

It certainly is a shame what Edwards did to his wife. I’d call it unbelievable but we see such reckless displays of infidelity all throughout our society these days.

Adam, we have a culture in which EVERYTHING is disposable, including relationships- it is just TOO hard to try and make it work, so just divorce the guy, or gal, and get another.
It is truly sad, because when you say the vows of marriage, you are supposed to take them seriously all the time, not just when it is convenient, or just during the good times- whether you believe in God, or just for common survival purposes, marriage was created as a way to double your chances in this world, as well as ensure the next generation- and when you throw it all away, you do enormous damage to not only you and your spouse, but ALL other family members- they are affected also, to a greater or lesses degree.
And then there are the mutual friends, who desperately wish to NOT have to pick sides, but are often forced into the fight through no fault of their own.
