Dr. King Is Rolling In Grave

The Federalist Patriot opened today’s email brief with an interesting observation about Dr. Martin Luther King and his dream compared to the message espoused by today’s civil rights “leaders.” This is copied from their email:

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’… I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character… And if America is to be a great nation this must become true.” —Martin Luther King, Jr.

Editor’s Note: Martin King asked that his children “not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Yet Jesse Jackson (one of King’s lieutenants during those tumultuous ’60s civil rights protests), Cynthia McKinney, Louis Farrakhan, Barack Obama, Al Sharpton, Harold Ford, Maxine Waters, Sheila Jackson-Lee and most other black political and social leaders today, advocate for government programs and policies that judge by skin color alone, regardless of character. The Democrat Party has, in effect, inculcated many black folks with the notion that they can’t make it on their own, that they must rely on Democrats for their welfare—relegating these constituents to a different kind of “plantation,” but enslavement just the same.

As for the expanding list of conservatives who have gained national stature (and happen to be black)—Justice Clarence Thomas, Secretary of State Colin Powell and his successor, Condoleezza Rice, Ken Blackwell, Michael Steele, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Alan Keyes, Ward Connerly, Don Scoggins, Alvin Williams, Star Parker, Jesse Lee Peterson, Larry Elder, etc., they are castigated by the Left as “Uncle Toms” and “puppets.”

This says a lot about the direction of the civil rights movement. It started as a quest for equality, a righteous goal, and it has become a quest for special treatment based upon one’s skin color. It has turned into a multi-million dollar business where minorities, instead of being told they are equal, are told they can not succeed without special treatment. It has lined the pockets of these leaders while holding the very people Dr. King envisioned having a better life down to subservient minions of their oppressive leaders.

Dr. King, like any human, had his failings but he truly believed in equality and his I have a dream speech was one of the most powerful ever delivered. His goal of having people be judged on character, not color, has eluded those bent of exploiting minorities for personal gain. If you listen closely you can hear a whirring sound. That is Dr. King rolling, no spinning, in his grave.
