Don’t Chastise Stein

For a long time we conservatives had said that you could not support the troops and then not support what they are doing, as in fighting a war on terror. The left has countered that they are able to support the troops without supporting the war. We have given them a hard time over this apparent illogical conflict. Now a writer, Joel Stein, has come out and said he does not support the troops. He said he does not support the war so he can not support the troops. This is the first liberal to actually have some sort of congruency of thought. He might be despicable but he at least holds the position we have long suspected represents the liberals in America who do not support the war on terror.

I think Joel Stein is a liberal twit but I can respect the fact that he had the guts to say what so many liberals deny. I do find it interesting that he says his stance is based upon his belief that supporting the troops means they will be at war longer and his only hope is to get them home sooner. I find it strange that he cares about them coming home but does not support them. in all likeliness, he only want them home so the war will be over and could actually care less about them as people.

Joel had this to say:

“But blaming the president is a little too easy. The truth is that people who pull triggers are ultimately responsible, whether they’re following orders or not. An army of people making individual moral choices may be inefficient, but an army of people ignoring their morality is horrifying. An army of people ignoring their morality, by the way, is also Jack Abramoff’s pet name for the House of Representatives.”

Maybe Stein should be reminded that the tens of thousands of Americans that died in WW II did so to free people with names like Abramoff and Stein. If our soldiers had decided to stay home so as not to pull a trigger then people with such surnames might not exist. I am often confused by the number of people who are so quick to criticize our soldiers and the wars they fight because it is a clear indication they have forgotten that generations of these very same, fine people, have died to give the complainers what they have today. Without the US military we would not have a country, we would not have a Bill of Rights and we would not have a free society where even the lowest form of scum can express an opinion without being dragged into the town square and shot. Case in point, Joel Stein (and Maureen Dowd for that matter).

There were many emails sent to Stein telling him to leave the country. I say he can stay if he wants. This is a free country and he has a right to his opinion, no matter how misguided. At least with Stein, you know where he stands so he is of no concern. We need to be worried about people who offer conflicting expressions, like Murtha, Kennedy, Pelosi and on and on.
