Do They Want To Be Kennedys?

The youngest son of Florida Governor Jeb Bush was arrested in Texas for public intoxication and resisting arrest. The Governor’s daughter was arrested in January 2002 for trying to pass off a fake prescription for the drug Xanax. It would almost seem as if these Bush kids want to be like the Kennedy clan.

In all reality wealthy people in and those in power have all kinds of trouble like this just as average citizens do. The difference is if you or I were arrested for this, no one outside our immediate circle would know or care about it. The governor is handling this as a private family matter, which is appropriate from his point of view. The public and the press are free to report and conclude as they wish but it would be inappropriate for the father to make it a public issue.

Just think, if this young man had been driving and drowned a woman he could have ended up as a United States Senator.

Well, the kids and grandkids of George H.W. Bush are no strangers to drug abuse and legal troubles. Look at George W. Bush’s twins. For Jeb’s kids to get in trouble is just family tradition. Forget the Senate. If these kids keep screwing up, doing drugs, flunking out of schools, they could become two term presidents of the United States. It’s the American dream.

That is what makes them different from the Kennedys. The Kennedys get in trouble and just hire fancy lawyers and then lie around the Kennedy compound tapping young women like JFK did and Ted tried to before he committed murder. If they had any ambition they could be Presidents too. Can you tell me though, what school any of them flunked out of? I am just curious because I am unaware of anyone having poor education, except most of the actors who criticize.

The Bushes have their personal problems and go into politics. The Kennedys have their personal problems, go into politics and either murder someone or get murdered.

  3. Adam says:

Sorry. I spoke in error. They flunked their drug tests, not out of school. Like fathers, like daughters and sons. The acorn never falls far from the tree, as some say…

  4. Big Dog says:

I don’t recall either father failing a drug test. I have seen no drug test results. Are you privy to something the rest of us are not or are you speculating from events?

So, you don’t think that the way a President runs his family and how his kids turn out aren’t representative of what kind of President he is?

I mean, if you think the President should be held to a higher moral standard, shouldn’t his family be representative of that standard?

  6. Big Dog says:

I think everyone should be held to a high moral standard but I also know, having children who are in their 20’s, that you can only do so much and they go out on their own.

I would not judge your parents by that thing sticking out of your nose. I would say that is a decision you made, just as my daughter made a similar decision that in no way represents who I am.

BTW, this happened to the governor’s son. And I would like to know how I think someone should be held to a “Higher” moral standard. I expect people to be moral. What you are referring to is below moral standards. Expecting my president to act like a civil, moral human being is not asking for a higher standard. It is asking them to have normal moral standards.

Funny how the Libs staunchly defended their Democratic President when he draft-dogged, sexually harassed women, smoked pot (“I did not inhale.” was obviously practice for the “I did not have sex with that woman . . . .”), and lied under oath. And, they’ve repeatedly put their support behind the infamous boozer, womanizer and criminal (yes, for us ordinary Joes, leaving the scene of an accident is a crime), Ted Kennedy. The real difference is the Republicans did not condemn Bill Clinton for the fact he had a cocaine using/dealing brother and a bribe-accepting brother-in-law. No. They just wanted the President to exhibit some actual moral fiber. (They booted Newt Gingrich for his escapades, so you can hardly call them partisan on this issue.) Silly Republicans! Guess it’s that nasty right-wing conspiracy we’ve all heard sooooo much about.

You’re right. Right now, he’s just a governor, but there’s definite talk on the right of running him for the presidency.

Personally, I don’t hold the President to a higher moral standard. You’re the one who mentioned it earlier. I do hold my pastor to a higher moral standard, but that’s part of his actual job.

Now, as for “that thing sticking out of” my nose…while I’m sure my mother will disaprove when she finds out, I doubt anything I’ve done in my life would embarrass either of my parents if they ran for political office — considering I don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t do drugs, don’t sleep around, am a Christian…etc. — practically a goody-goody…but the point is that my dad isn’t going to run for President, but I think he did a heck of a job raising me and I think if you are going to hold a President to a higher moral standard, I think how he raises his family is a good representative of that.

And if either Bush twin got her nose peirced, that would probably be the least of George and Laura’s worries. 😉

I would think that the way most of these children were raised, whether it is the Bushes, the Kerrys, the Kennedys or any of them, is quite different from how most of us were raised. I don’t think any of them have done much more than most other teens the only difference is they are constantly in the public’s eye. They can not pass gas without someone knowing it. This in no way excuses their behavior but as a parent, I can tell you that you can raise your children well and when they get to a certain age they are going to be their own people. That is why they get things pierced, tattooed, and branded.

I don’t think instances of youthful indiscretion makes their upbringing a bad one, for all those kids. As for the President, he needs to be a representative of not only his family but of the entire country. I hold that person accountable for acts of indiscretion that embarrass this country. I don’t think it is asking too much to want a President who does moral things while in office and refrains from blatant acts that show total disregard for the office and the country.

People seem to think that because I want a President who has moral character that I hold them to some standard that is higher than that expected of most members of society. I want them to act like I would want my father, co-worker and myself to act. With dignity, character, and moral conviction.
