Democrats Still Supporting the Troops, Not!

The Democrats are so focused on hurting President Bush that they are neglecting the men and women in the military who are on the front line of the war on terror. There are those, like the dolts at the Daily POS, who say that Bush is not supporting the troops because he vetoed the funding bill. He did not veto the bill because of the funding, he vetoed the bill because it took away the powers vested in him under the Constitution. The Democrats took weeks to pass legislation that they knew would be vetoed. These are the same people who said they would make sure the troops were taken care of.
The latest effort to support the troops is a bill that would provide funding until the end of July and then if there is no progress (no word on who will measure progress or by what standard) then the Democrats will cut off funding for the troops. This is how the Democrats take care of our troops and ensure they have what they need to fight our enemies.
The Democrats long for their glory years of Vietnam where they cut funding and brought our troops home in disgrace. They are looking to again effect change by showing cowardice and thus allowing our enemies to crow in victory as the leaders of Vietnam do to this day. Their actions are pathetic and they are not fit to be the elected representatives of the people. America will only remain the land of the free as long as it remains the home of the brave and with the Democrats the end is on the horizon.
We are headed back to the days of a military with low morale and lack of desire as we had during the Carter and Clinton presidencies. The troops know when they are appreciated and they know when they are being supported and they also know who actually supports them. That is why they vote overwhelmingly Republican.
And therein lies the issue. Perhaps the Democrats are paying them back for supporting the “wrong” party.

Good grief, Big Dog. The military has hundreds of billions of dollars lavished on it and we’ve spent more than $500 billion in Iraq and Afganistan. are you suggesting that that is not enough to keep their morale high?
And didn’t Nixon, a Republican, decide to end the Vietnam war? I wasn’t aware that the Vietnamese were still crowing about their achievement.
I guess we should just keep throwing money and troops at the boondoggle in Iraq and hope that somehow we’ll stop them from killing us and each other. That’s what we’ve been doing and so far it has been a brilliant success, hasn’t it?

We have spent 3 TRILLION on the war on poverty and I don’t see calls to end that war.
There are a lot of good things going on and the troops need money and equipment to do their jobs. Congress sent them there and it is up to Congress to keep the money flowing. We need to have success or we will have problems here at home. All the talk about defunding and the war is lost flap is affecting morale.
Nixon did not end the Vietnam war. The Democrats in Congress stopped funding it and we had to bring them home (sound familiar). The result was over a million people killed. I watched a 60 Minutes piece in the past and the Vietnamese official said he was not worried about the US. He said if we ever came back they would beat us again.
If you are going to go to war then there must be a complete commitment. It will be hard to get people to join the service if we pull out and then you guys can get that dreaded draft. Perhaps if they started drafting these war protesters they might think twice about what they are doing.

What we are seeing here is a cynical high-wire political gambit. If you read the comments of the Democrat leadership you will not find any who don’t expect the war to be funded without strings. I have a better idea… why not draft College Republicans and other war *supporters*? how much more obvious could it be that you would logically want to recruit soldiers from among those who believe most fervently in your cause?

The point of the 60 minutes piece was that it was an example, not all inclusive.
I would love to end social programs right now. The point that has escaped your narrow mind is that we have spent 6 times as much on poverty as the war (and poverty is at the same level it was when we started) but no one is calling for us to stop wasting that money.
The draft would be all inclusive and I am happy for them to go. Most of the people I know are serving or have served. If you say that only those who support the war can be drafted because it is logical to take those who support the cause then you open a can of worms:
Only those who support taxes should pay them
Only those willing to fight for the rights in the Constitution may enjoy them
Need I go on.
