Deeply Disturbing Behavior

I am deeply disturbed about something I read at Cao’s Blog and then others linked to the post. We have been engaged in a war with an enemy hell-bent on wiping out our way of life. During these trying times the best and the worst of the human experience displays itself. We have seen the protests and the people Like Stephan Pearcy who demean and belittle the efforts of men and women much braver than he. The Michael Moore disinformation campaign and the constant flip flop of the liberal politicians who care little for our troop but only how they can manipulate the situation to garner votes.

Now we have the same kind of vile hatred being spewed from the mouth of a child. There is a soldier named Joshua Sparling who is recuperating at Walter Reed Army Hospital from a gunshot wound he suffered in combat. Some little kid named Miguel sent him a Christmas card, the only one Joshua has received, and this is what was written inside:

Dear Soldier,
Have a great time in the war and have a great time dieing[sic] in the war.
Miguel.
PS. DIE

This is wrong on so many fronts I don’t know where to begin. First of all, it is unlikely this twerp thought this up on his own. He was influenced by someone, probably a parent or teacher. It is terribly disturbing to think that some adult was such a coward that he used a child to convey this kind of message. It is equally disturbing to think that whomever influenced this child is responsible for children in any way, shape, or form.

Secondly, what kind of monster teaches children this kind of hate? This kid will end up as a member of MS 13 lying face down in a gutter during his abbreviated life and it will be because some cowardly adult felt it necessary to teach such hatred. This kind of influence on children is as bad as any other child abuse for which other adults are arrested.

Thirdly, perhaps instead of teaching this child hate, the adult responsible for the card could spend time teaching this child the correct way to spell. Perhaps if the child were learning, the way he should be, he would apply himself and when he needed to spell the word dying he would do it correctly. Is it any wonder that the educational system in this country produces idiots?

Many sites have picked this up and are asking that readers send Joshua a real Christmas card expressing thanks for his service. Others are including phone cards as a small token of appreciation. Joshua’s address is:

Joshua Sparling
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue
Washington DC 20307-5001

  1. Free Speech and Acts of Wanton Cruelty …

My mind’s numb over the cruelty, and I don’t think for an instant that a child composed it, nor do I think that there is anything less than wanton barbarity behind it…

…but why not inflict a little mental torture on a wounded US soldier, and c…

Big Dog…. Thought I’d let you know that I was there and there and to see how that card just increased the determination of that young man is absolutely awe inspiring.

I have a son in Iraq. He left a wife and 5DAY old baby to go fight in this war. He is scarficing his son’s first smile
first steps, to protect our rights and freedoms to do this….
I want our sons and daughters home.
I think it is a fruitless effort to fight these people.
They have no regard for themselves , so why would they have any regard for us.
I support the effort of our troops… but I pray that they come home soon..
