Biden’s Lies Are A Government Invention

Joe “Gaff-o-matic” Biden is out on the campaign trail trying to scare up votes for his party in what is looking more and more like a TEANAMI heading for November 2nd. He is out there trying to make people believe that the things they have done are great and the idea is that we need the big government agenda of Obama in order to survive. According to Joe, government is so important that it was responsible for all the great inventions of the last 200 years. Joe had this to say:

“Every single great idea that has marked the 21st century, the 20th century and the 19th century has required government vision and government incentive.” New York Daily News

He went on to say that Lincoln paid people to lay railroad tracks and that private sector could not do that for 35 more years. The implication being that, of course, government can do it all and is better than the private sector. The reality is that if we spend enough money on something we could get anyone to do it. Why would a private business pay to lay track when government was shelling out loads of money to do it? If it had been done by private business it would have been cheaper, better done, and not been as much a burden to the taxpayer.

But what is Joe saying? He is telling us that every great idea in the last 200 years required government vision and incentive.

Here is a list of things that have been invented in the last 100 years or so. These inventions started as someone’s idea and eventually became reality. However, none of them required government vision or incentive:

  1. The Radio
  2. The zipper
  3. The Gillette disposable razor
  4. Television
  5. penicillin
  6. The ball point pen
  7. SCUBA
  8. The airplane
  9. Bourbon
  10. Baseball
  11. The artificial heart
  12. The light bulb
  13. The computer
  14. The telephone
  15. The sewing machine
  16. The telegraph
  17. polio vaccine
  18. Air conditioning

This is but a short list of things that were a vision that became reality because of the absence of government, not the presence of it. These were invented by people who were curious or who wanted to make money, or both. Some were the result of searching for solutions to certain needs. Bell invented the telephone while working on sound with regard to the deaf (he had deaf family members). They were not taking some vision from government and then getting an incentive from government to bring the government’s vision to reality.

These people worked on their own ideas and their own visions in order to invent a product that benefited mankind. In some cases, items are invented to circumvent government oppression. NASCAR would not have come about had it not been for prohibition and the tricked out cars used to run moonshine.

As Ronald Reagan said; “government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”

So despite what Biden said, the great things we have were developed by people who had their own visions and who did not get incentives from government (though there are certainly things invented as a result of government intervention). About the only thing government is good at inventing are the stories its members continue to tell us. The biggest invention this week that required government vision and incentive was the lie Biden told.

One only needs read what Biden used as his example. If what he said was true then certainly he could have come up with an example that was more recent than the Civil War.

Democrats believe that government is the only entity that can do something and that we must allow it to get bigger and bigger so that it can continue doing things.

Unfortunately, most of what it does it is not supposed to do and the things it is supposed to do it does not do very well or in a cost effective manner.

But Biden wants you to vote for more of that.

Next Tuesday you get to tell Joe that the people of this country run the show. Let us wash the big government progressives out of government.

Let’s make it a TEANAMI.

Cave Canem!
Never surrender, never submit.

I received this the other day–

    AMERICAN INGENUITY
I have not yet heard of a public announcement about the AMERICAN INGENUITY and AMERICAN PRIVATE ENTERPRISE for the following contributions in the miraculous rescue of the Chilean Miners:

Schramm Inc. of West Chester , Pennsylvania built the drills and equipment used to reach the trapped miners.

Center Rock Company, also from Pennsylvania , built the drill bits used to reach the miners.

UPS, the US shipping company, delivered the 13-ton drilling equipment from Pennsylvania to Chile in less than 48 hours.

Crews from Layne Christensen Company of Wichita Kansas and its subsidiary Geotec Boyles Bros. worked the drills and machinery to locate and reach the miners and then enlarge the holes to ultimately rescue them.

Jeff Hart of Denver Colorado was called off his job drilling water wells for the U.S. Army’s forward operating bases in Afghanistan to lead the drilling crew that reached the miners.

Atlas Copco Construction Mining Company of Milwaukee , Wisconsin provided consulting on how to make drilling equipment from different sources work together under differing pressure specifications.

Aries Central California Video of Fresno California designed the special cameras that were lowered nearly a mile into the ground sending back video of the miners.

Zephyr Technologies of Annapolis Maryland , made the remote monitors of vital signs that miners will wear during their ascent.

NASA Engineers designed the ” Phoenix ” capsule that miners would be brought to the surface in, and provided medical consulting, special diets and spandex suits to maintain miners’ blood pressure as they’re brought back to the surface.

Sadly, victoria’s comment not withstanding, of the items you list in the original post, how many were invented in the last 20 years, during the era of huge government? Sadly, the massive government of the last 20-40 years is truly crushing most attempts at innovation in this country — except, of course, the innovation required to “get around” government.

  3. Big Dog says:

I don’t know when Microsoft was invented but the ipod, ipad and the iphone are all great inventions of the last 20 years.

However, your point is taken. Though government is not the vision or incentive for invention it is the entity that stifles people and keeps them from inventing.

  4. Adam says:

The problem with the list is that not one item on it was created in a vacuum. Every documented discovery or invention builds on another throughout time. That’s how science works.

Biden’s point is not that government and government alone is the answer. It’s just that he believes what I too believe which is that government has played a vital role in science and technology and should continue to do so. To deny the impact of tax payer funded research on science and technology in the last century is a very short sighted thing to do.

    • Big Dog says:

No item is ever created in a vacuum but these items were created without government vision or incentive which, despite your assertions to the contrary, is what Joe Biden said.

There are plenty of items that are and have been created without government incentive and vision. Most items were created this way.

Government has done little except provide taxpayer money to fund certain things but accomplishments were usually from those who were part of the private sector.

You see, I gave credit to government for being involved in some inventions realizing, of course, that the majority is accomplished without government.

Biden made no such claim. He told us EVERY great idea required government vision and incentive.

      This is patently untrue.

The Wright brothers used their money to invent the airplane. The had NO government money, incentive, or vision.

Biden would have the mindless believe the opposite.

      • Adam says:

“Biden made no such claim. He told us EVERY great idea required government vision and incentive.”

Biden did not say every great idea. He said every single great idea that has marked the last few centuries. Biden is clearly stretching a little but you’re taking it the wrong way. I’m not sure though what I’d count as having marked our time period.

One other problem I have with your argument is that while single individuals or private industry most of the time are responsible for ideas and inventions, this leaves out the fact that the lifespan and evolution of ideas and technology expand greatly after it’s first conception.

For instance, the government didn’t invent the computer. Yet, military funding and other research grants over the last half century helped lead to the miniaturization of computers and the Internet which I’m sure you’ll say has been pretty important to computers.

I don’t believe government is the only way to get things invented and Biden isn’t saying that either really if you read closer. He’s just touting the idea of government investment in science and technology which has played a key role and should continue to do so if we hope to compete with the rest of the world.

        • Big Dog says:

I think you are defending what he said by ignoring what he said.

It is not remotely true. It would help if you wnet by what he said instead of what you think he meant.

The funding led to miniturization of computer stuff (I think NASA had more to do with it) and it gave us neat things like digital watches and LCD watches (you probably read about them).

Those items were imporved upon by the private sector in cooperation with the government and the private sector would have done so without government.

But why spend your capital when the government will pay the R&D costs? The major point is that government is not needed to have stuff invented. It has partnered but has not been as important as the private sector. And while the government is not needed for inventions the private sector is needed. Government could do nothing without it.

The reality is that Biden is clueless and thinks government is the answer. We are more prosperous when we have less of it.

This does not negate the reality that some items came about faster than they would have because of government involvement. If we did not get embarassed by Russia we would not have had our government rush to get people into space and on the moon resulting in advances in computers.

Our involvement in wars has given us a lot of medical advances that were borne of necessity but hey would have come without the wars albeit later. I think that later is preferable to having war but if we are to have war at least we should benefit from it.

No, private sector can always have a vision and bring it to reality without government. Government cannot do the same because it needs the private sector.

This is something Joe fails to realize as is evidenced by his words, not what people think he meant, but his actual words.

        • Adam says:

How can you claim I am ignoring what Biden said when you’re the one taking him out of context?

Your statement about what Biden said:

Biden made no such claim. He told us EVERY great idea required government vision and incentive.

          Biden’s actual statement:

Every single great idea that has marked the 21st century, the 20th century and the 19th century has required government vision and government incentive.

Again, Biden did not say every single great idea. He said every single great idea that marked our history.

I believe Biden was stretching to say what he did but he was not in any way saying that government is the only entity that can do something. We don’t believe government is the only answer but we do believe it is a much more integral part than your side wants to believe.

        • Blake says:

Biden is the perfect person to invite to children’s parties- a clown without the big feet.
Government has invented NOTHING- EVER! And it never will- its very composition ensures stagnation, and if we rely on government for anything, we will wait for a loooooooooong time.

        • Blake says:

Do you not think the light bulb, the phonograph, and the radio were ALL conceived and perfected WITHOUT government intervention?
NO GREAT INVENTION WAS EVER CONCEIVED OR EXECUTED WITH GOVERNMENT HELP, with the exception (possibly) of velcro.

  5. Mr. Ogre says:

Remove government regulation and government “funding” and innovation and invention will absolutely EXPLODE beyond what people can imagine right now. Seriously.

Government investment actually slows down inventions and innovation due to the rules, regulations applied, and slow speed at which government funding and approvals move.

  6. Big Dog says:

So tell me Adam, can you tell me a great invention that did not mark each of the centuries referenced?

Seems that if it was a great invention then it marked the century in which it was invented.

I will wait for the great invention that did not…

    • Adam says:

Depends on how you define great and mark. You’ve read too much into Biden’s statement because you dislike him and you like to smear him as an idiot.

      • Big Dog says:

Now Adam, you and I both know that I do not smear him as an idiot. What he says makes him an idiot.

      • Adam says:

The only reason you think he’s stupid is because of his gaffes and his politics which you disagree with. That doesn’t make him an idiot. Biden is a pretty smart man and was a well qualified US Senator. I’d say he’s a good VP but really what does it take to do that job well?

        • Big Dog says:

I think he is stupid because he is stupid. Being qualified to be a Senator does not mean you have to be bright. A lot of stupid people grace the halls of Congress.
