Barry Barry Quite Contrary

There is a huge oil spill in the Gulf and though it is quite a disaster it is not a reason to stop drilling for oil. This is the first major oil spill in the Gulf in 40 years so it is not like this happens every day. It is terrible, make no mistake, but it would be even worse to stop drilling for oil because of it.

We are Americans and we do not stop because of a problem. We did not end space exploration when astronauts died, we did not cave to Japan after Pearl Harbor and we did not give up despite numerous setbacks during the Revolutionary war. We dig in, fix the problem, refine the process and make things better. That is what we do as Americans.

The Obama regime has halted new drilling until this disaster is assessed. Not a bad thing so long as the halt is temporary and Obama does not use it as an excuse to stop new drilling. And so long as this is not used as an excuse to nationalize the oil industry (why SWAT teams to the oil rigs).

It is interesting that coal and oil suffered big setbacks over the last month because coal and oil are the very forms of energy opposed by the regime.

But Obama has other things to worry about. He needs to ensure his legacy does not suffer a hit like Bush’s did during and after Katrina. That hurricane had not blown itself out before the left was declaring Bush’s efforts slow and disjointed. The left was busy blaming Bush for what happened (while ignoring the Democrats in Louisiana who held the lion’s share of the blame) and that hurricane haunted him the rest of his presidency.

Now Obama has to worry about being seen in the same light though he does not have to worry about it from the state run media or the left. They are content to give Barry a pass on his slow response.

Yes, Governor Jindal did not declare a state emergency until many days after the event but that might actually be because the oil did not threaten his state until then. The accident took place in international water and it would be up to the federal government to handle the issue though I do not blame them for waiting to see how the oil company handled the mess. However, once it became clear that this was bigger than first thought and that more resources would be required, it took the regime a good while to muster the resources.

Obama has put out information about the federal response to silence his critics but the reality is that it took more time than people would have liked. Is he finally seeing that sometimes it takes quite a while to muster resources? Perhaps the finger pointing he and his fellow Democrats did concerning Katrina is coming back to bite them in their behinds.

And Barry has been quite contrary. At first he was not going to the region though a trip was not ruled out. Then, not long after that announcement, we learned that he will visit the Gulf. Perhaps he did not want to be seen as a do nothing leader. Perhaps he did not want to be saddled with the same image painted of Bush.

Maybe he initially did not want to go because he felt he might get in the way and disrupt things. That was what Bush said about a trip to New Orleans during Katrina. Maybe Obama is worried about a picture of him in a plane being used to show that he flew over the problem, like the one used to paint Bush as unconcerned and out of touch.

Barack Obama is no more to blame for the oil spill than Bush was for the hurricane. Bush was roundly criticized for his response to Katrina and Obama might receive criticism as well. Let us see if he is held to the same standard by the state run media.

This is from an Obama for America publication about rebuilding New Orleans:

As president, Barack Obama will keep the broken promises made by President Bush to rebuild New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. And he will take steps to ensure that the federal government will never again allow such catastrophic failures in emergency planning and response to occur.

Barack Obama swiftly responded to Hurricane Katrina. Citing the Bush administration’s “unconscionable ineptitude” in responding to Hurricane Katrina, Obama introduced legislation requiring disaster planners to take into account the specific needs of low-income hurricane victims. Obama visited thousands of Hurricane survivors in the Houston Convention Center and later took three more trips to the region. He worked with members of the Congressional Black Caucus to introduce legislation to address the immediate income, employment, business and housing needs of Gulf Coast communities.

Barack Obama swiftly responded by introducing legislation which then takes months to be debated and passed (if it even passes). Yep, there is swift for you. Obama talked about Bush’s “unconscionable ineptitude” in responding to Katrina but his response to the oil spill has been slower and, if we were to use the same grading criteria, displayed “unconscionable ineptitude.”

Barry is learning that governing is not as easy as he thought and that a nice smile and fancy rhetoric will only get you so far. He is also learning that when a politician makes promises and bashes others those words often come back to haunt said politician.

Is this Obama’s Katrina? Only time will tell but if we depend on the state run media the answer will of course be “No.”

I really don’t care what they want to call it. His response has been slow and lackluster and while the Gulf Coast is in real trouble, Obama was busy telling jokes

You just know what the response would have been if it were a Republican.

Never surrender, never submit.

Ah, but that was before the rise to power of the Safety Nazis!

    Sieg Health!

    “Is this Obama’s Katrina?”

No. It’s just not a very good comparison so don’t look for it to stick. The right has had about a dozen things they’ve called “Obama’s Katrina” and your pals over at Media Matters has the list. Pretty pathetic.

Except for the conspiracy theories from Limbaugh and other right wing idiots about the explosion your side has been pretty silent on this whole mess. I don’t blame you really. Your side must have finally given up searching for ways to pass the buck or to lie like you did about the Katrina and Rita oil spills. Drill, baby, drill!

The truth is what is happening off the coast is what environmentalists always have feared most and what your side laughed in our faces over every time we suggested it might happen. It only takes 1 every 40 years to really destroy the environment so pretending this is rare is pretty meaningless.

The Valdez still hasn’t been cleaned up (contrary to more Limbaugh lies…amazing that your side protects such a bald faced liar) after 21 years and it looks to be a smaller spill and in a region less sensitive to wildlife than the gulf coast wetlands.

So yeah, let me be the first to thank your side for your undying love for the oh-so-safe offshore drilling. It must be about that time to try and open ANWR since we’ve been shown again how safe and clean oil exploration can be.

No Adam, drilling is safe. If the US required the companies to have remote shut off valves this might have been averted. We have suffered huge opil spills throughout history and we have survived them. There will be problems but we will survive and we will make it better.

Yes, you have been saying this could happen and no one disputes that it could. The reality is that it is rare. And we do not yet know how this happened as the explosion has experts stumped. Perhaps the truthers can start figuring out how it happened.

Adam, oil is how we get energy. Until an affordable and safer alternative is found we must keep using oil. The way to get it is to drill for it. Accidents happen. How many times have tanker cars on a railroad overturned and caused a problem? Quite a few but we still transport using them. We must make things better but we must continue to drill.

I think I already said I did not know and did not care if this was his Katrina. The fact is his response was slow and he did not live up to what he promised when he was bashing Bush.

I know you want windmills and electric cars but we are not there yet and we cannot give up oil until we have proven alternatives.

Like it or not we need to drill. Sometimes accidents happen but we do not give up. If you and people like you had been in charge when we had the American Revolution we would still be a British colony.

Oil is here for us to use. Let’s use it.

      • Adam says:

“How many times have tanker cars on a railroad overturned and caused a problem?”

When a taker car overturn and releases millions of gallons into the ocean your comparison might hold. This is an enormous disaster and one of the largest if not the largest spill in history. This is the cost of oil exploration and it’s huge. It’s no longer just somewhere up there in Alaska or over in the Gulf. These chickens have come home to roost and we’ll all see the cost first hand. It’s a damn shame, too.

But don’t worry. BP will pretend to pay the billions upon billions for cleaning it up and then just pass the cost of their negligence on to consumers. Since you brag on your gas guzzlers I’m happy to see you paying more money in the spirit of “Drill, baby, drill!”

Unfortunately BP won’t be able to bring back the diverse wild life it will kill or the economic activity that will go belly up because of this. But I’m sure BP is spending lots on PR right now to reform it’s image and to make sure folks know that drilling is oh-so-safe safe that we need a rig off every piece of the coast…

“If you and people like you had been in charge when we had the American Revolution we would still be a British colony.”

Strange to say since my people were in charge in the American Revolution just like yours were. The founders were a well rounded and diverse bunch of folks. Or maybe you’ve just bought into the Huckabee style idea that the founders were all a bunch of right-wing values voting conservative Christians that were chanting “Drill, baby, drill!” all the way…

        • Big Dog says:

Tanker cars overturn near waterways all the time and affect people in towns as well as their lives and the economy.

It might be the largets spill in history (though it is not technically a spill as that would mean it came from a container). Chickens coming home to roost? Get real Pastor Wright. This is an accident (though the jury is out on that). What would you say about it if it were eco terror? What if it was not an accident? Just something to think about.

Regardless, it is a disaster we will clean up and move on from. I am amazed at how people cower in the face of adversity.

I also like how you say that BP will pretend to pay for it and then pass the cost on to the rest of us while you routinely ignore that very basic fact about everything else. Tax business, cost to us, Adam ignores. Wall Street reform that costs billions, cost passes to us, Adam ignores. Heath Care costs passed on to us, Adam ignores. How come you are never concerned about cost passing on to us when taxes are raised or new regulations and fees are set by the government but you worry about BP passing them on.

Yes, gas will be more expensive. Here is the deal. I can afford to pay for my gas no matter what it costs so driving my SUV is my business and not yours. The nice thing is, if I want I can go buy any car on the lot that gets great fuel mileage and leave my SUV in the garage until I need to drive it rather than want to drive it.

And just so you know, these alternative fuels you want to use are very expensive and the cost will be passed on as well while we get less bang for the buck. Make it gpood and people will buy it.

I do agree with the people who said this is not what you predicted, it is what you hoped for.

And to close, the wildlife will either survive or it will die. For a group of people who espouse the world of Darwin you are not real big in the survival of the fittest. If you are an evolutionist then you know the fittest will survive, otherwise you admit Darwin was full of baloney…

        • Adam says:

          “Get real Pastor Wright.”

I don’t quote Pastor Wright when it comes to chickens. I prefer that quote coming from Malcolm X, who we both know you secretly pay homage to in your recent writings.

“What if it was not an accident? Just something to think about.”

This is something morons like Limbaugh have spread and you and Blake are picking up on I suppose but of course there is zero evidence.

“Tax business, cost to us, Adam ignores.”

I ignore it simply because don’t care just like I don’t care what BP passes on. I’m just saying I’m glad BP will pass that on because it will hurt folks more like yourself who have a love and desire for gas guzzling freedom-wagons.

“I do agree with the people who said this is not what you predicted, it is what you hoped for.”

Like your suggestion this could be eco-terrorism, your agreement with this other moronic statement only shows how silly you can be when it comes to your partisanship.

“If you are an evolutionist then you know the fittest will survive, otherwise you admit Darwin was full of baloney…”

If by “evolutionist” you mean do I believe in evolution? Why, yes I do. It’s science. Do you disagree? But the thing is while I believe in natural selection I also believe in being a good steward to the planet my children and grandchildren will have when I’m gone. There’s nothing natural about oil slicks, no matter what your masters like Limbaugh says.

    • Big Dog says:

“There are 30,000 wells that have been drilled out in the Gulf of Mexico, and so this is a very, very rare event,” Mr Salazar said on ABC. “Thirty per cent of the oil that we produce domestically comes from the Gulf of Mexico, and so for us to turn off those spigots would have a very, very huge impact on America’s economy right now when the president is doing everything to stand up this economy.”

      • Blake says:

There are people who will say that this was a sabotage job by the left to discourage drilling- I can’t say that it WAS, but i do know that the first thing the oil companies put on a wellhead, even an exploratory one such as this, is a blowout prevention valve, designed to shut the well down if the pressure is too great, or, in this case, when the flow becomes too rapid and uncontrolled.
Where was this valve? Why did it not trigger a shutdown?
These are questions that need to be answered, and in a timely fashion, because the safety record of the rigs in the Gulf has, until now, been sterling.
If there weren’t such restrictions on shallow water drilling, a part of this equation would be moot, as the difficulties of capping a blown out well from a mile down is much more challenging than a shallow water well.

    • In on it not says:

Your ignorance about Alaska is stunning, Adam.
“We suggested it might happen…” ?? More like “we wished it would happen!”
Well you have your wish. And it happened on Obama’s watch.

And yes, it is time to open ANDRE, another place in Alaska that you know absolutely nothing of.

Adam, I love to read your junk; You don’t reproduce, do you? I bet your kids are as dumb as a pipe.

    • hdrko5 says:

      Adam
I agree with you “this is not a very good comparison.” It was harder to do anything in NO with the weather so bad,but that is not the case for Obama. A lot more resources could be moved into place for the oil issue. And before you say it I did not like Bush and I don’t like Obama either.

    • Blake says:

This MAY be Barrie’s Katrina “moment”- we shall see- if he just points the finger, rather than says that NOW is NOT the time to assign blame, but rather roll up our sleeves and get this done- well, then I would give him the “Katrina” label, because he would have deserved it then.
A true leader doesn’t blame all those around him, a true leader just gets the job done.
Let’s see if he can do this.

  3. Big Dog says:

Nice try Adam. Limbaugh is not my master. I work while he is on and I can form my own opinions. I did not say it was eco terror or deliberate, only asked what if it was. You cannot say that it was not because there has been no investigation. Why did Obama send SWAT teams to the rigs? How do we know an enemy of America did not do this?

You cannot prove otherwise as yet.

Evolution is not a science. It has yet to be proiven and is full of fake attempts. Good steward of the planet? Then why do you support people like Gore and Obama who burn way more fuel than people like me?

As for who this will hurt, it will hur tthe poor who must keep the older cars they have or who cannot afford to buy anything else.

It will not hurt me. I can afford gas, can afford a new car and can carpool. But they will not just raise the price on me, it will be everyone. That includes you. I don’t care about the price.

I do care that you wished for this to happen and now you got that wish.

Malcolm X? That racist turd. He is a person who I would cheer when he got shot. His chickens coming home to roost quote was about kennedy and the racism of the Democrats.

He was a racist who got what he asked for. Great hero, broken home, criminal life, time in jail, converted to Islam and it looks like he had time to impregnate Stanley Ann Dunham with a little Barry.

    • Adam says:

“You cannot prove otherwise as yet.”

Which is why, unlike yourself, I am refusing to speculate on it.

      “Evolution is not a science.”

Again, thanks for the laugh. I needed one. Ha ha ha.

“I do care that you wished for this to happen and now you got that wish.”

Stop making stuff up. You know better.

      “Malcolm X? That racist turd.”

Yes, the only thing you need to know about Malcolm X is that he was a racist piece of excrement that deserved to be murdered. Your grasp of history stuns me again.

  4. Big Dog says:

Oh, and was not Malcolm the malcontent killed by his own NOI buddies? Here is a good picture of him.

  5. Bunny Colvin says:

Dog- I thought the Kentucky ice storm was “Obama’s Katrina”. Don’t you remember that ridiculous post you had a little while back? It shouldn’t be hard to find. If I remember correctly, the title was “Kentucky: Obama’s Katrina”.

    PEACE

    • Big Dog says:

I remember and the comparison was spot on. Obama did not care about the white people suffering.

As inept as this guy is, he will have a lot of Katrinas.

And the left made a deliberate task of painting Bush with the failed government brush while ignoring the Democrats at state and local level. For those of us who actually know about emergency planning and have evaluated dozens of those plans exercised, there is no doubt that the failure started at the state and local level and that failure is what caused the problems.

FEMA took 3 days, their doctrine. Obama has been doing what for the last week or so?

      Here, let me help. NOTHING.

  6. Bunny Colvin says:

How many fatalities have we seen from the oil accident and the great Kentucky ice storms? How many in Katrina? (The real Katrina).

Your sh!t stinks, Dog. “Kentucky: Obama’s Katrina”- still your all time most ridiculous post. Even funnier than your running shoe/loafer punchline. Hilarious.

    PEACE

    • Big Dog says:

How many of those people died because they were led by incompetent Democrats?

      ALL OF THEM.

I am not sure many died from the hurricane but the bulk of those who did died when the levees, overseen by local levee boards, collapsed.

They would not have died had Nagin not left the buses there to get flooded.

  7. Bunny Colvin says:

All of those people died because they were “led by incompetent Democrats”? Dog, you are a fool. To say that these folks died because of local Democrats is another of your famous oversimplfied moronic claims. Have you even been to New Orleans since the storm? Do you know anyone who was living in the city when the storm hit?

You try to make everything so simple. This might fly with your simpleton followers (Flake, Victor, Potsy and the gang), but to those of us in the reality-based community you’ve exposed yourself as a chump. Most of the time, you know not what you speak. Katrina, the financial crisis, immigration, baseball…the list seems to be endless. Give up.

    PEACE

    • Big Dog says:

No Bunny, I was not there and know few people who live there. I do know plenty of the people who helped in the rescue efforts.

I know that the NO evacuation plan called for leaving people behind. I know that people were left behind.

I also know it is the responsibility of the local and state government to take care of the people and not the federal government.

Perhaps when you actually have some experience in these kinds of emergencies you can tell me how they are supposed to run, how to do the planning and who is supposed to provide them.

Maybe you can explain how a mayor and governor who were there were unable to help people but people expected the president to be there and running things from the start…

  8. Bunny Colvin says:

Some of us like to believe that the federal gubment might pitch in during a disaster like Katrina. Chertoff wasn’t really interested. Nagin was/is worthless regardless of what party he whores himself out to at any particular moment. Blanco was in over her head and folded under pressure. Ok, so I admit that two prominent dems screwed up. Are you telling me that the federal response to Katrina was adequate?

    PEACE

    • Big Dog says:

Not at all. If you had read anything I wrote about it you would see that there was plenty of blame to go around. The blame though, was not solely on the federal government (which can’t just come and help, it has to be requested) but that is how it was portrayed by the state run media.

The feds did some things well and others not so well but the failure started at the state and local level.

That is all I have always said but it was never portrayed that way. It was all Bush’s fault end of story and that is not a fair assessment.

  9. Bunny Colvin says:

Oh no, Doggie. I’ve read several books on the subject (the best being The Great Deluge by Douglas Brinkley) and, unlike you, I know people who were there before and after. And I’ve seen New Orleans post Katrina myself. Plenty of blame to go around indeed.

    PEACE
