AZ Man Faces Jail For Seeking A Better Life

Cristian Alfredo Urquijo, a 39 year old man, was arrested in Arizona last July and his crime really amounts to trying to have a better life. He was unemployed and needed to eat so he performed odd jobs (jobs very few are willing to do) to make ends meet and so that he would not starve to death.

I would say that he was trying to make a better life for his family as well but I do not know if he has family.

One would think that this Man, Urquitjo, was here illegally trying to make life better life for himself and has been arrested and is awaiting deportation – especially since this is Arizona. This is, after all, the picture we have been painted.

They came here because there were no opportunities in their native country, they had no jobs, they wanted to provide a better life for themselves and their families and they are no threat to the country. What laws have they really broken?

This case though, involves a person whose immigration status is not identified. He is identified as a bank robber who claims he was out of work and needed to eat so he took to robbing banks.

All this poor guy wanted was to make a better life for himself. He was no real threat to anyone. Yeah, he pointed a gun when he robbed banks but he never hurt anyone. He was only acting out of desperation. What laws did he really break?

Illegally entering this country is a felony as is bank robbing. Most banks have armed guards in them to keep bad people out and our borders have armed guards in most places who are there to keep bad people out. In both cases, entering illegally or robbing a bank, the person or persons involved only want a better life for themselves and seek that better life by breaking the law.

The only difference is that the bank robber faces 20-35 years in jail as reward for his felony while those who enter this country illegally are given jobs, don’t pay taxes, are given welfare and social security, their kids are allowed to attend school and Obama will reward them by Executive Order for reward for their felony.

Reward them? Yes, with a “path to citizenship” called the DREAM Act, or, more appropriately, amnesty. This is a plan that was defeated several times in Congress but Obama will enact it via fiat.

The people who broke the law getting here are coddled by the Democrats while those who rob banks will be sent to jail.

Yep, our system needs an overhaul.

As does the roster of those occupying elected positions…

Half of illegals simply overstayed their legal entry visa but that is beside the point.

For you to compare illegally being in the US to armed bank robbery just shows how disconnected you are.

For me it still goes back to two issues.

First, there is a moral issue of how far we go to stop illegal immigration, to close our borders, and to send home anyone we catch.

Second, law enforcement has finite resources. Who do I want our police and court systems dealing with first? I’m pretty sure illegal immigrants who’s only crime is being here illegally are low on that list. We can punish the employers and we can deal harshly with the illegals committing further crime in the US. Otherwise we have bigger fish to fry.

  2. Adam says:

“…the liberals are soft on crime and their policies leads to more of it.”

“Soft on crime” is just a frame your side creates to win elections. Liberals tend to be realistic on crime, not ideological.

    • Blake says:

No, liberals ARE soft on crime, because they attribute all crime as being the result of people being disadvantaged, and victims of the inequities of the system, when the truth is that these people just took what was not theirs to take, simply because they are lazy, with no moral center.
They were probably raised by liberal socialist progressives who were afraid to even give their spawn a well deserved time out, much less a whippin’.

    • Ferd Berfel says:

Excuse me but the liberal Democrats won the election, so please wear those cement shoes yourself.

Lets talk about your reality for a second, shall we?
Let’s look at what these, “smart folk” have learned during their long life study of crime. They learned that people will expand to the border that society allows. If society “allows gays” to walk freely in normal society, they will. If murders are allowed back in to society, they will return. If people are not allowed to defend themselves, crime will increase.
These are all facts. Not you or an entire army of retards in blue hats will change that. Scream and rant, they are facts, proven by the very same “smart folks” you invoked earlier.

It has been proven beyond any doubt that crime isn’t done by a class of people. It is done by individual people.
Making criminal policy that ignores this individual aspect of crime will fail.
All the “intellectualism,” and understanding the basis of why they made crime will fail, where one other simple option never fails.

It is cheap, fast, thorough and non-reversible. When applied, there are few new offenders, and no repeat offenders. Heck with smacking them around. Be nice, polite, put the gun to the head, pull the trigger.
        Case closed.

    • Blake says:

Adam, let’s take Vermont as a liberal example, since they have activist judges who like to let pedophiles run free- would you say that after serial-raping a 7 year old girl, the defendant should have gotten more than a three month sentence, commuted to time served, or do you think there is something wrong with that?
Do keep in mind it is not just this one case, but most of them that are like this one.

    Blake:

Some folks spend their whole lives researching the causes and reasons behind criminals and crime both on an individual level and a social level. I’m sorry that you think that’s all useless and the criminals all just needed smacked around more as a child. That idea that crime will just stop if we make punishments harsher and we stop coddling people is a very ignorant way to approach things. But then again I’m talking to a conservative and there is nothing intellectual or logical about your movement any more in our country.

    • Big Dog says:

So, Blake is wrong to expect something to be applied to an entire population when people have researched and found there are many reasons for behavior. In other words, he should not use a broad brush to paint the picture.

He should be more focused like you were when you painted an entire group (conservatives) and unintellectual and illogical. Oh wait, you did the same thing you accused Blake of.

The mob mentality of the left. keep saying something over and over and they will all believe it and pass it on. There are more people who identify as conservative in this country than who identify as liberal. Liberal policies have failed us from FDR to BHO and yet you keep doing them over and over because of the mob mentality.

      • Adam says:

“He should be more focused like you were when you painted an entire group (conservatives) and unintellectual and illogical.”

If the shoe fits. You, your party leaders, and your fellow conservatives writing on this site all parrot a similar brand of anti-intellectualism from the way you spread around ideas like evolution is “just a theory” to the suggestion that human caused climate change is a myth.

“…keep saying something over and over and they will all believe it and pass it on.”

Or the mentality of the right: Tell yourself the truth is a lie enough times and it will all start to look like a conspiracy any time multiple people believe it.

        • Ferd Berfel says:

Adam, you wouldn’t know the truth if it bit you in the hat.

        • Blake says:

The mentality of the LEFT, I believe you meant to say- they are the serial liars here, and when that doesn’t work, they jump up and down, and cry “racist”, or “bigot”, simply because their intellectual ammo has been depleted, and so they resort to childish behavior.
          Too bad, so sad.

    • Blake says:

Yes, it’s true I advocate the death penalty for violent offenders, (murder, rape, pedophilia, robbery, etc.), but I do advocate possible treatment for others, like pot smokers, or other addicts- but there’s a limit- three strikes, then they have to go to prison for a long time.
I offer NO apologies for my stance.
Rehabilitation is generally not effective, so our prisons would be filled again quite quickly, even without the murderers, etc.

  4. NoTingles says:

Folks, the answer on BOTH sides of the border is to eliminate the corruption that BOTH governments are filled with, and make Republics out of both. Big and Bigger government, that is definitely NOT for the liberty and prosperity of either side is the problem. If we were doing these things, Mexicans would have no need to swim the river, and skirt the border patrollers. But when our government is running both guns and drugs across the border, how can it be expected to do anything thats moral and legal? Sure they got caught, and they have been exposed, but have any of you seen heads roll yet? Wachovia and Western Union got a slap on the wrist as far as fines go for drug money laundering, and meanwhile, there is a full on war taking place in which 10’s of thousands have died…but still the CIA drug flights go on, the money laundering goes on, and the fast and furious boys are doing a booming business.

While the BILLIONS in illegal profits are being made, Juan and Jose are dealing with that grumbling sound in their stomachs and in their childrens’ stomachs. How is that moral? Border control will always be a problem as long as the root problem is allowed to continue with a wink & nod, and arrest/deportation is like trying to stop a leak in the dike by inserting your index finger. The Mexican government is as corrupt as the day is long, but then so is ours and together they have created a most insane and inhumane tyranny for the average citizen.

  5. Ferd Berfel says:

While Mexico may be corrupt, to claim that “..so is ours and together they have created a most insane and inhumane tyranny for the average citizen” is total BS. Maybe you, Michelle Obama, think USA is nothing to be proud of, but our problems, such as they are, are directly traceable to our codling of liberal policy, the likes of which you seem to endorse, with your weasel-worded platitudes of non-sense.

    • NoTingles says:

do your homework…follow the money. This problem has little to do with misplaced nationalistic pride because the criminals who are destroying our republic couldn’t care less, and they only wave the flag when you’re looking. You may differ in your opinion, but that won’t make you right. And stop calling it “liberal” policy because it is anything but. It is tyranny, and manipulation and you have apparently been manipulated.

      • Ferd Berfel says:

Just like a liberal, telling others what to do. You don’t know me, and have made a series of assumptions on which you base your rant. OK. Fine. I wont tell you not to make a fool of yourself. Be my guest. Rant away!

But you made assertions that are totally lacking in factual basis. Me do “my” homework? How about you show me yours? You made the claim, what makes you think I will go to some nebular liberal sites and glean conspiracy theory lies from the left to support your lame theory? It is yours; you prove it.

My opinion is simple and I say it often; None of the problems of the country are caused by being too conservative. It is new-thought, new-way, new-age methods that have brought America to this pass.

NoTingles, proof that it is “tyranny,” a word YOU need to look up, has to come from you, none other. It is your opinion, you back it up, or back yourself off.
