Any Wonder They Are Backwards?

The Miss Universe pageant was held recently and Miss Puerto Rico won (and then fainted backstage). She is fine and people in Puerto Rico are very happy. In Indonesia, on the other hand, they are considering charging their contestant with indecency because she wore a swimsuit that exposed her body in the pageant.

Participation in the contest and display of her body in a swimsuit there “is actually insulting for Indonesian dignity and women,” the group’s lawyer told Reuters. The offenses involved carry potential sentences ranging from two to six years in jail.

Now tell me how backwards this is? First of all, did they not know she was going to compete? I would think that since she was not in Indonesia when she committed this offense then she should be in the clear but when you consider how arcane laws in certain areas of the world actually are, it is hard to tell. She might go to jail for 6 years for competing in a pageant.

Maybe she should apply to stay here. Nadine Chandrawinata is an attractive person who could make money as a model but if she goes home she might end up as some woman’s prison love slave. I am beginning to believe all these Islamic groups are killing because they are sexually frustrated and do not appreciate beauty. They make women cover up and hide themselves. From what I have seen, the women are not the ones who should be covering their faces.

Is it any wonder these people live in a time that looks like it is centuries old?

The people in Europe thought it was stupid when certain people complained about a certain President getting a blow job. Is it any wonder that people think the US lives in the past also.

This is a fine example of revisionist history. You see, people were not upset that Clinton engaged in a sex act. They were upset that he engaged in a sex act with a woman other than his wife and then lied about it to the American people. If his girlfriend had not kept the dress his people would have painted her as a nut case and it would have been over.

As it was, he lied to America. He was impeached for lying under oath. He was guilty of doing the very thing that many a boss has been fired for, having sex with a subordinate.

I do not expect apologists to understand this. They are too busy rewriting history to cover up their stupidity.

As an Indonesian myself, you cannot imagine how frustrated I am with this bizarre swimsuit issue.

The craziest thing about this is that she’s not even a Muslim! And they want to force the Islamic way on her by arguing that she is a public figure and hence she has a social responsibility to behave in a way that will not offend the Muslim community. Before that, she was already disowned for having a German-ancestry and hence does not reflect the so-called “Indonesian beauty”.

The ridiculousness doesn’t end there. This militant group found a picture of her wearing a bikini during one of the official photo shoot–that photo was the one that started this uproar. But to actually get your hand on that picture is not an easy task. One need to intentionally search the Internet and be familiar with the beauty pageant websites because it wasn’t published on the official Miss Universe website. Anyway, why would you go to the Miss Universe website in the first place if you’re so against women wearing swimsuit?

    Do I smell hypocrisy?

    Satir,
I appreciate your views on this. The whole purpose of the post was to call attention to these very issues. They had to look for the pictures in a place where they should not be looking (based on their beliefs).

If she had won, would they still want to arrest her or would they be happy she brought positive attention to her country.

Why she would want to go back there is a mystery.
