Another Quagmire!

Oh wait, sorry, the war with Libya won’t be a “quagmire” because Obama and Clinton like it. Apparently US troops in foreign countries are only a “quagmire” when Republican presidents are in office.

This is a really, really bad idea.

I wonder how Obama would feel if Ireland decided to help the people in Maine by declaring a “no fly zone” for the US over any parts of Maine. Do you think the press would be okay with Finland saying they were hoping to blow up the Portsmouth Naval base “hopefully in hours” because they wanted to “do whatever’s necessary” to help the “rebels?”

The United States should withdraw all troops from all foreign countries. The military is designed to kill people and break things. If they’re not actively killing people or breaking things, they should be home. After all, we’ve got the UN to save the world, so either get rid of the UN or get rid of our standing army. Yeah, I know, I’m dreaming. But I like to dream of freedom.

I’m not sure how military operations against Libya without US troops on the ground get you starting in mocking Democrats over their concerns in Afghanistan and Iraq which I’m sure you noticed turned out to be spot on.

When the US sends invasion forces the scale of Afghanistan or Iraq into Libya to topple the government then you can talk about a quagmire. If our troops are still dying in Libya 10 years from now then you can say you were right.

  2. Ogre says:

Okay, thanks for providing the new definition of “quagmire:” people dying after 10 years. So I presume that you support this operation, as long as US soldiers only die for 8 years?

  3. Adam says:

Smart off all you want but I find it hard to label a conflict a quagmire when there’s no troops stuck in combat to speak of.

Eight years? No. You’ll find I have a fairly consistent lack of support for the armies dropping bombs on and/or shooting each other and the civilians caught in the middle.

I don’t get excited at the thought of other people dying for my freedom the way the American right wing does.

    • Big Dog says:

Since the American right wing makes up the population of people who are dying for your freedom I think they have a right to be proud of the ones who serve. The smarting off is by people who say that someone gets excited about people dying for our freedom. It is also those who want our soldiers dead or salute them when they kill their officers.

As for the quagmire, the American left started screaming quagmire long before large numbers of troops were in Iraq or Afghanistan (which was the right war according to your peeps). They screamed as to how it would be another Vietnam. Ogre is right, it is a quagmire when a Republican gets us involved but not when a Democrat does.

What does being proud have to do with the large number of chicken hawk conservatives fighting their wars by sitting at home watching Fox News from their armchairs? This is why the Operation Yellow Elephant is such a great project. It calls out the idiots on your side who cheer on the wars that other people’s children end up fighting and dying for.

“Ogre is right, it is a quagmire when a Republican gets us involved but not when a Democrat does.”

I’m sorry that you too seem to think that you can just pretend Libya with Obama = Iraq with Bush. Get real. I can’t wait for you to suggest Obama is just “lobbing” some missiles at Libya for political points.

  4. Ogre says:

So once again, Adam, you support the US government spending on this? Do you support this government in attacking Libya or not?

It is reported 112 cruise missiles were fired today. They cost around half a million dollars each.

We’ve fired huge amounts of missiles on Libyans and killed Libyan citizens. Do you support this action, or not?
