And So It Begins

The insurance premiums people pay will go down and businesses will see their insurance rates go down. Obama said it would save about $2500 per year.

Well not so fast. The Market Ticker has a quote from its forum and it would seem as if the insurance companies did not get the memo:

“So I just got a call from my health insurance provider. My family rates are going up $200/month … $2400/year per employee effective April 1st. Didn’t take long after signing to get this s**t going.

So much for the “my plan will save Americans” $2500/year in Healthcare premiums.

F***ing liar in chief. “

So this person has to pay $2400 more a year for each employee.

Nice, very nice. So much for the savings.

This bill will cost Caterpillar 100 million dollars a year in additional costs and Zoll will pay about 7.5 million dollars in taxes on its medical equipment. Does anyone think they will be hiring, giving pay raises or NOT passing the cost on to consumers?

Seventeen states have filed lawsuits or shortly will and there is a good chance that the mandate will be ruled unconstitutional. If that happens the whole health care bill begins to unravel because the mandates are designed to force people to pay so more money is available for those with preexisting conditions.

If the mandate gets thrown out the CBO numbers mean nothing…

And the source for this little tidbit is… some anonymous person yammering in a comment thread? Really? Does it get any weaker than that?

Even if this were true, and it probably isn’t, this would be a legacy problem the new bill is set to fix, not a result of it, obviously.

And here goes the “against the will of the people talking point”:

“According to a Gallup/USA Today poll conducted the day after health care legislation passed the House of Representatives, 49 percent of the respondents think the passage of reform is a “good thing,” compared to the 40 percent who think it is bad…

Democrats didn’t just get a health-care-related boost in the realm of public opinion. The Democratic National Committee reported raising more than $1 million in donations on Tuesday even without making a direct ask.”

Obama, Democrats Begin Reaping Political Benefits Of Reform.

    • Big Dog says:

No, if the insurance provider called it was a result of the bill. Just like when credit card reform was passed, all the credit card companies raised their rates so they would be capped at higher levels. If insurance raises rates now then any lowering of them (which won’t actually happen) will not hurt them.

There was a small bounce for the Democrats because of this. That will pass. The only real poll they need to worry about is the one in November.

    Darrel,

I don’t know about anyone else, but my employer has already been notified by his accountant that this health care legislation is not going to be a good thing for his business. He has told me that wages will actually have to be cut, in order for him to meet the mandates that are contained in the bill.

    • Darrel says:

Maybe he needs a better accountant.

How likely do you think it is that his accountant has “read the bill?” Approaching zero. And if he has, that he understand it’s implications. Even less likely. I don’t believe it.

More likely that he has read distortions of it.

It may be the case that some business will have to pay more, and many others less. What we do know is that small business will be receiving large tax cuts in order to help them offer coverage to their employees. And this is a very good thing indeed.

      ——————-
As Obama mentioned in an email he, personally, sent me today:

“Small businesses will receive significant tax cuts, this year, to help them afford health coverage for all their employees.”

He also (and this is very exciting) invited me to co-sign the bill with him! And of course I did. My name will be in the permanent record. Now my grandchildren can, perhaps a hundred years from now, say “hey, I wonder if great great great grandpa Darrel was a cool dude and signed that old healthcare bill that helped save America?” And they can look it up on the Hyper-MegaNet and see that in fact, I did.

      You can too.

      • Big Dog says:

He personally sent it to you and a million other morons.

Or your great great grandkids can curse you because they will still be paying the debt.

Funny Darrel. Has the accountant read the bill. I would say it is a good bet that many in the private sector who have to deal with this have read it and certainly more have read it than any member of Congress. Obama did not know what was in it when questioned on FOX.

        • Darrel says:

I hear it’s rather long, and it wasn’t finalized until it was posted Friday. Obama’s probably busy with other things, like ordering cases of champagne.

      • LD Jackson says:

Well, I can’t say for sure if the accountant has read it or not, but I would say he has, given his concern over it. I know the man personally, so I would tend to lend him quite a bit of credibility. In other words, he knows what he is doing.

Honestly, I believe this legislation is going to have some very far-reaching consequences, some of which can not be known until it begins to be implemented. I, for one, do not like it.

        • Big Dog says:

LD, I believe the guy and I don’t know him. It is easy to see what will happen.

          DAR
Yes, many people don’t like it. I would like to see some very specific examples of what there is to not like about it. Something a bit more solid than you know an accountant who doesn’t like it.

Bigd finds comfortable claims easy to believe, that’s why he ends up with so many ludicrous beliefs. Best to be a bit more skeptical.

Here is a rather extensive list of substantive reasons to like the bill.

          D.

          • Big Dog says:

            Substantive reasons from Pelosi? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Now that is funny. That bitch does not have to accept it and has her own care. There is plenty that people do not even know about.

I just wish that they were so sure they would say that we could put them in front of a firing squad should it not turn out like they say. Want to bet they would hedge?

          • Big Dog says:

I find it easy to believe not because it is comfortable but because I know hundreds of medical care providers and small business owners and have heard similar stories from them.

    • Big Dog says:

Of course this is true. The left knows that they cannot afford this and that it will raise prices. Next year we will be looking at new taxes like the VAT or a national sales tax (I would like a national sales tax if they eliminated the income tax).

  3. Blake says:

I do know that I will not sign up for this FUBAR of a bill- let the IRS try and dun me- if they can’t prove I make any money, they can’t penalize me-
I will just have them bill Darrel-

    • Darrel says:

BLK: “I will just have them bill Darrel”>>

      DAR
Well that isn’t any different from what you are doing now then is it?

Blake doesn’t have insurance, so we all pay his way. Maybe he can get medicare soon. Thanks LBJ!

      D.

      • Big Dog says:

Since Blake pays cash for his health care and has paid all his bills no one pays for him.

Maybe we will all get Medicare if it still exists. LBJ said it would be about 12 billion by the 90s. It is 10 times that and has trillions in unfunded mandates. We cannot sustain it and it is a drag on the economy.

        Thanks LBJ you socialist bastard.

      • Darrel says:

Bigd: “Blake pays cash for his health care and has paid all his bills no one pays for him.”>>

        DAR
Like 25% of his neighbors in Texas (worst state for lacking health insurance) he doesn’t pay for his risk. This is passed on and paid for by everyone else who pays for insurance and raises the premiums of a family plan by about $100 per month.

So yes, many others are “paying for him.”

        • Big Dog says:

If Texas is worst it is because of all the illegals who have no health care. The government plan would not over them anyway, that is what Barry said.

Take them away and how is it? I also want to know how many in Texas could afford care but choose not to buy it.

        • Big Dog says:

It does not matter if he pays for his risk, he pays for his care. What he is not paying for it the risk of others. His money cannot be used to pay for someone else’s care.

        • Darrel says:

Bigd: “I also want to know how many in Texas could afford care but choose not to buy it.”>>

          DAR
That really doesn’t matter. Imagine if 25% of Texas drivers were uninsured (if it was legal) and someone said, “I wonder how many drivers in Texas chose not to buy car insurance.”

Does it really matter “why” they’re not insured? Does it matter if they *choose* to pay for their risk? No, what would matter is THAT they are not insured and that there would be a whole lot of people not paying for their risk. This would be unacceptable, so we don’t allow it. Same with health insurance. You need to be responsible and pay for your risk rather than pass it on to everyone else.

          Bigd: “[Blake]…pays for his care.”>>

          DAR
There is a profound potential for expensive and necessary care that he could not pay for, just as there is lots of potential for auto accident liability he could not pay for. Thus he buys car insurance and should, if he were responsible, pay for his health liability risk.

Bigd: “What he is not paying for it the risk of others.”>>

          DAR
You bring up a good point. While not only mooching and freeloading on his own personal health risk he also mooches and passes along the cost of living in a society that subsidizes health costs, on to other people. So he’s a double moocher.

Or what you guys like to call a “rugged individualist,” John Wayne, (chicken hawk) type. Tough guys, until they get sick.

          D.

  4. Big Dog says:

Obviously you are wrong. First of all comparing car insurance is apple and oranges. As for Texas, it does matter. If you are saying it is the worst for rates of insured then to have perspective we need to know how many of those have chosen to be uninsured. If 100% are uninsured because they cannot afford it that is much different than 100% chose not to buy it.

Car insurance is mandated but people do not have to drive. You are not forced to have car insurance unless you decide to drive a car.

And when you buy car insurance you are protecting OTHER people. The only things you are REQUIRED to have deal with protecting others. You have to have liability to take care of others should you hit them. You have to have higher limits if you financed the car and need to protect the lending institution.

You do not have to carry anything to protect yourself, just others.

There are millions of illegals in Texas who have no health insurance and they add tot he number. This law will not change that unless Obama lied because they will not be covered anyway.

And Blake adds to no one’s problems by paying for his own health care. His risk is not part of the problem.

If Bill Gates pays cash for his medical care (and he can buy the hospital) it does not hurt anyone. It probably helps keep paperwork down but it hurts NO ONE.

You obviously cannot understand that if you are not paying for Blake then you are not accepting any risk from him.

Your risk comes from people who run up medical bills and don’t pay for them. They are too busy with 2 cars, a bunch of cell phones and a big house to pay their bills. They are a risk to you, not people who pay their bills.
