ABC Is The Barack Network

Looks like now that ABC news has become the official government mouthpiece it is refusing to take ads that oppose the infomercial that it will host for Barack Obama.

Statement from Rick Scott, chairman of Conservatives for Patients Rights:

“It is unfortunate – and unusual – that ABC is refusing to accept paid advertising that would present an alternative viewpoint for the White House health care event. Health care is an issue that touches every American and all potential pieces of legislation have carried a pricetag in excess of $1 trillion of taxpayers’ money. The American people deserve a healthy, robust debate on this issue and ABC’s decision – as of now – to exclude even paid advertisements that present an alternative view does a disservice to the public. Our organization is more than willing to purchase ad time on ABC to present an alternative viewpoint and our hope is that ABC will reconsider having such viewpoints be part of this crucial debate for the American people. We were surprised to hear that paid advertisements would not be accepted when we inquired and we would certainly be open to purchasing time if ABC would reconsider.” Drudge

Hey there, littlebrain. You almost had me until I saw the “All Barack Communism Network” subpost.

Who are your readers? Probably haters. You’re a small and dwindling minority. Keep doing what you’re doing. I think that it will keep producing the same results.

    • victoria says:

Big Dogs readers are no more haters than you. Small and dwindling minority. I think not.

    • Blake says:

We are not haters- we are the people you will be hiding behind and yelling for us to save your sorry ass- we might think about it, or we might just consider that now might be a good time to cull our society.
You seem like a good place to start.

  2. Farpstabber says:

You’re a really Big Dog. How we admire your bigdogness. Wow! And you’re smart too! Go, dog.
    (and remember to vote)

  3. Farpstabber says:

Oh. I forgot to mention that you really impress us when you say that YOU support our troops. Did you ever notice that PBS (the Newshour with Jim Lehrer)has memeorialised every soldier that has died in Iraq or Afghanistan? Did I mention that the (Liberal) NY Times published the picture (if available) of every person who was killed on 9-11 – and who they were? I read every one. Some I knew. Who the hell are you?

    • Darrel says:

      ABC does too.

When Koppel listed all of the Americans killed one night, conservatives had a fit.

      D.

      • Blake says:

Koppel did it to embarrass the President, not to “honor” the dead- he practically smirked while this was going on.

    • Blake says:

Yo fartstabber- do you have an opinion, or just hate, like some of your kind? You and the rest are hilarious- keep on with the one syllable words. I’m surprised you do not grunt.
Personally I find it hilarious that Hussein has most of the media licking his feet in a presidential toe cheese fest, NBC and ABC leading the way.
The media are fickle pets,however- they’ll turn on you like pit bulls.

    • Blake says:

They did not do this out of patriotism- that much is certain, knowing these outlets, but then you seem to have a lack also- certainly a lack of respect for another’s opinion it seems, and not much of one of your own, either.

    • Big Dog says:

I would think that 24 years of service would mean I don’t have to explain myself when I say I support the troops.

  4. Darrel says:

Why would anyone care what the republicans think about health care?

Today they released their detail free proposal:

“House Republicans presented a four-page outline of their health care reform plan Wednesday but said they didn’t know yet how much it would cost, how they would pay for it and how many of the nearly 50 million Americans without insurance would be covered by it. […]

Republicans who stayed at the press conference to answer questions — the leaders made statements but didn’t stay — could not answer whether their plan would include a tax increase to pay for such costly items as refundable tax credits for low- and middle-income workers to help pay for insurance.”

Etc. What crap. What a joke.

And as the leader of the republican party said today (from my media matters hourly summary):

‘Hour 1: Limbaugh’s Rallying Cry On Health Care Reform: “We Can Shut This Down”‘

Republicans have obstructed long enough. Who do people trust and want to listen to on this issue?

“When it comes to reforming the U.S. health care system, Americans are more confident in Barack Obama (58%) and Congressional Democrats (42%) than Congressional Republicans (34%), according to a Gallup Poll released today.

Of the eight prominent health care actors, Republicans are least trusted, behind even insurance companies, who have garnered 35% of the nation’s trust.”

    D.

    • Blake says:

You talk about a detail free proposal, only one third of the Dem report has been seen, and already it totals one trillion dollars, according to the CBO.
Quit sucking on the liberal sites, and try some real facts.

  5. Blake says:

Its funny that people who Identify themselves as Republicans are 40%, while those who say they are Dems only poll at 20%- could someone be feeling ashamed of their vote? Could be- well, we can begin to take back our country in 2010- and keep a lot of this creeping socialism out of our society before it wrecks it completely and leaves us vulnerable to our enemies.

    • Adam says:

I’m going to have to ask you for a source for those numbers. Surprise, right?

Look at this though, average of many, many national polls for Party ID showing nothing related to a 40% 20% split. In fact, almost the opposite but not quite:

      Democrat: 37.4%
      Independent: 32.4%
      Republican: 26.6%

It’s common of course (except in recent history) for the party out of power to take back seats in the midterms, but looking at Party ID right now I’d say don’t measure the drapes just yet.

      • Darrel says:

There is no source for his claim. Blake reversed his numbers. Amazing.

Percentage of self-identifying republicans? Not a topic he wants to talk about right now.

        From April 26:

        ***
“There is a warning sign for the GOP in the new poll: 21 percent of those surveyed said they identify as Republicans, the fewest to do so in a Post-ABC poll in more than 25 years. Last fall, Democrats outnumbered Republicans at the polls by the biggest margin in network exit polls going back to the 1982 midterms.”

I think the 40/20 split is people who identify themselves as conservative/liberal. Recent Gallup poll.

        • Adam says:

You’re right. I just found the poll from June 15, 2009.

Liberal versus Conservative is much different than Democrat versus Republican, though. Those trends have been pretty steady for decades and it hasn’t helped the Republicans much lately.

        • Darrel says:

The far right has been pretty successful at their long campaign of demonizing the word “liberal,” so even some people with moderate and progressive tenancies will go with another label like “moderate” and “progressive” (progressive not being an option in the above poll).

They’ve been piling the hate and disdain on this label for a very long time. Hitler did it too. But it doesn’t really matter, it’s just a word, a label. What matters is the pendulum is swinging away from the crazies on the far right, and stronger than ever.

“Long ago, there was a noble word, LIBERAL, which derives from the word FREE. Now a strange thing happened to that word. A man named Hitler made it a term of abuse, a matter of suspicion, because those who were not with him were against him, and liberals had no use for Hitler. And then a man named McCarthy cast the same opprobrium on the word. Indeed, there was a time –a short but dismaying time– when many Americans began to distrust the word which derived from FREE. One thing we must all do. We must cherish and honor the word FREE or it will cease to apply to us.” –Eleanor Roosevelt

The 26.6% Party Republicans can’t take the heat apparently. Victoria posts an article begging liberals to leave them alone for just a bit. They cry uncle and plead for us to focus our attention on Iran instead of them and ignore all the utter bullshit they are smearing around right here at home.

Nice try, Victoria, but I for one won’t take my eye off the ball. It’s in my job description to work to see that you and your kind of evil stays away from the levers of power in this country for as long as possible…

      • Big Dog says:

The problem with liberals is they do not have a sense of humor and they don’t pay attention. Here is what the bio says about the author:

Yes you do, Adam- Useful Idiot. Know that one? You are remarkably good at it- a natural, one might say.

        • Adam says:

Funny how political movements always start to refer to the other side as “useful idiots” when the people are no longer voting for the things the movement believes in.

Many of us Democrats spent time under Bush talking about how dumb people where to re-elect the man. Conservatives are right there now thinking the only way the movement could have failed is because there are stupid, uninformed people voting.

We don’t agree, get over it. Calling us “useful idiots” just makes you look petty and childish.

I’m a left winger? Naw. In Canada I would be considered a conservative. The left/right boxes are very limited two dimensional dichotomies in a three dimensional political landscape. I am conservative on lots of things and would be on more. But the serial bad behavior (exaggeration, dishonesty, hypocrisy, irrationality) of the folks on your side scares sensible folks away. And now you are reaping what you have sown.

Evil???Excuse me??? As that article put it you call Bush all kinds of evil and accused him of squashing decent. You don’t even recognize squashing decent when you see it–ie ABC. This country can’t pay for socialized medicine. Hell,–we can’t pay for anything they have done up to now. TARP,Stimulus,GM,etc.etc. and I for one don’t want anyone telling me what to do when it comes to getting medical treatment or telling my doctor what they can and cannot do for me nor do I want them taxing the medical insurance that my husbands employer provides as income. The numbers of people insured and uninsured are bogus and we are not in a @#$%^& crisis.

Considering that this country pays more than any other country and still has the mess we have (almost 6,000 medical bankruptcies a day), we can’t afford to wait any longer to try some socialized medicine.

Might be an idea to base it on the socialized military medical system, after all, as the Bigdog says: “The care is the best in the world, the administrative side and the costs leave little to be desired.”

Wasting $209 billion a year on the paper work for 1,300 insurance companies? Not working so well. Big surprise! Feeding the profits of those 1,300 insurance companies? Not working so well. Big surprise!

VIC: “numbers of people insured and uninsured are bogus…”>>

      DAR
Actually they’re not. Try adding some detail to your claim and see if it holds up to careful examination. It won’t. Your assertion is based upon carefully calculated lies that some on the right like to pass around to each other (George Will repeated them all neatly in a row Sunday on ABC). All rubbish talking points and this is easy to show.

VIC: “we are not in a @#$%^& crisis.”>>

      DAR
If you don’t think we are in a crisis, then you haven’t been paying attention (at all). For one thing, it’s really hurting our industrial competitiveness. Consider this example:

      ***
Toyota to build 100,000 vehicles per year in
      Woodstock, Ont., starting 2008

      Nov 04

New President of Toyota Motor Corp. Katsuaki
Watanabe said that the automaker plans to build a new plant in Canada. (AP/Shizuo Kambayashi)

      STEVE ERWIN

WOODSTOCK, Ont. (CP) – Ontario workers are
      well-trained.

That simple explanation was cited as a main
reason why Toyota turned its back on hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies offered from several American states in favour of building a second Ontario plant.

Industry experts say Ontarians are easier and
cheaper to train – helping make it more
cost-efficient to train workers when the new
Woodstock plant opens in 2008, 40 kilometres away from its skilled workforce in Cambridge.

“The level of the workforce in general is so high that the training program you need for people, even for people who have not worked in a Toyota plant before, is minimal compared to what you have to go through in the southeastern United States,” said Gerry Fedchun, president of the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association, whose members will see increased business with the new plant.” …

He said Nissan and Honda have encountered
difficulties getting new plants up to full
production in recent years in Mississippi and
Alabama due to an untrained – and often
illiterate – workforce. In Alabama, trainers had to use “pictorials” to teach some illiterate workers how to use high-tech plant equipment.

“The educational level and the skill level of the people down there is so much lower than it is in Ontario,” Fedchun said.”

      DAR
Okay, so it’s partly education, this is the part I meant to get to:

“In addition to lower training costs, Canadian workers are also $4 to $5 cheaper to employ partly thanks to the taxpayer-funded health-care system in Canada, said federal Industry Minister David Emmerson.

“Most people don’t think of our health-care
system as being a competitive advantage,” he
      said.”
      –http://www.cbc.ca/cp/business (link expired)

      DAR
Some states even offered *twice* the subsidy to get the plant. Toyota went to Canada for the above two reasons. Canada’s health delivery system is so much more efficient, covers everyone, has better outcomes, and is cheaper.

      Another example:

Our dear Blake can’t health insurance because he has a pre-existing condition. So instead, I am paying an extra $1,000 per year to cover people like him, who, when they are hit with something catastrophic (and thousands are every day), the get financially wiped out and then pass the remaining balance on to everyone else. The problem is, our costs are so high that when it gets passed along, it just continues to feed the trillion dollar, waste filled, bloated, US health care beast.

And that’s just really stupid. Everything Hillary predicted in the early ’90’s has come to pass, and we just can’t afford to feed the beast anymore.

      D.

      • Blake says:

You aren’t paying squat for me Darrel, don’t flatter yourself- I am self pay, and have paid my own way since my insurance was cancelled.
What about the unions who are going to be exempted from the taxation on health bennies?
Are you going to excuse this poor excuse of pandering to a political faction like the unions? This is blatant payback, and its wrong, but you will probably excuse this also.

        • Darrel says:

You are a free loader on the system just like everyone else who cannot, or chooses not, to pay for insurance. You are one car accident, one work accident, or one serious disease away from racking up bills you cannot pay which will be passed along and absorbed by everyone else. I am paying for it. It’s included in my premium.

Surely you don’t think I read your articles? I try to but when I come across childish insults (which are usually in the title or first sentence) I move onto to something intelligent.

Regarding your lack of health-care, you are a freeloader, living on the health care dole of everyone else who actually pays for insurance. And I am getting a little tired of paying for your risk. You need to pay your own way and stop mooching.

Get sick, get hurt, and you will coming whining, begging, for a handout (potentially a massive one), suddenly seeing the light and glory of “socialism.” And we will pay. And we will pay through the nose. As we already do for you pseudo “rugged individualists” who are all tough until reality comes to town.

It would not be “on him.” Blake’s risk is passed along to everyone else and adds an average of $1,000 to the yearly premium of every family in America paying for insurance.

              Get a clue. He’s a freeloader and a mooch.

Just as he would be if he drove around without car insurance (which he isn’t allowed to do).

Mr. Marlboro man talks tough until he gets emphysema, then he comes riding into town to get care. And we pay.

I seem to remember Adam already admitting that in an above comment. But why make the same mistakes Democrats did? Are you out to repeat history of the Bush years so much that you’ll refute any attack on your illogical behavior to date by saying “You did it first”?

      • Blake says:

You see, this is how you are-“Just because WE did it, doesn’t mean it is okay for you to do it”- Get over it- now you have an inkling of the crap we had to put up with all of you whiners for eight years.

I just find it hilarious that it is such 2-way street. I’d rather sit back and watch your side do the same things they said were just so wrong when liberals did it. Your defense is that we can’t object because we did it? Yet, who’s the bigger hypocrite? Someday there will be a Republican president and roles will reverse again and I don’t think either side will really get that.

        • Blake says:

          Yes- but we are right.

  11. Big Dog says:

Darrel, that is what families and property is for. You work it out. We are all one thing away from some catastrophe. That is how life works.

    • Darrel says:

BIGD: “..that is what families and property is for.”

      DAR
That’s the American health care system? That’s the best we can do? We’re all “one thing away” from an accident, an illness, that will wipe out our families and property? 5700 medical bankruptcies a day. That’s insane.

We don’t allow this with cars. You have to have insurance and you have to have insurance in case someone without insurance hits you. This is because poor people, with little to lose, like to drive around without insurance and let *everyone else* assume the cost of *their* risk. With our health, everyone just floats along until there is an emergency and then people are wiped out and when they run out (which they quickly do), we all, collectively, jump in and carry them (at ridiculous out of network rates).

What’s Blake’s net worth? Doesn’t matter. There are tens of millions like him with a net worth of negative, to $0, to $30k, to $50k. And these are typically the people without insurance because they don’t have much to lose. So they mooch. It’s just like people driving without car insurance except the cost can be far higher. We don’t allow that anymore.

I was reading yesterday about a young healthy fellow who racked up $25k for tests regarding a headache (could have been an aneurysm I suppose). Come to think of it, I *know* a young healthy fellow who got a staff infection and racked up nearly $30k in days.

How many days does Blake’s family and wealth carry him at $10k a day? Not too far I bet.

      D.

  12. Blake says:

If Hussein was to limit the malpractice awards, like we already do in Texas (so does California) that would go a long way towards eliminating needless tests done to ensure someone’s backside is covered, but noooooo- he’s a lawyer, so why limit the money attorneys can make? He’s a sick puppy, with no real common sense, and he’s making a bad situation worse.

  13. Big Dog says:

You couldn’t kick ass if you had help.

It is not foolish. The fact is, he is not taking anyone’s money. He is not a freeloader or a mooch. A freeloader is an illegal drawing on the system. A freeloader is a person sitting on the couch drawing welfare. A freeloader is a person who accepts government health care when others are paying for it. A free loader is a person who pays no taxes but gets a “refund”

Risk is always passed on and that will not stop. Because of poor drivers we all pay more. We pay based on risk by age. We pay more if the goat rancher down the street is at high risk. That is true of everything.

There are not 5700 medical bankruptcies a day. The numbers come from skewed data in a study conducted by those who want single payer system.

There are not nearly that many, it is all hype.

As usual, you do not know what you are talking about.

Here is an insight into methodology

    • Darrel says:

BIGD: “The fact is, he is not taking anyone’s money. He is not a freeloader or a mooch.>>

      DAR
Absolutely he is. Everyone else is paying for his premium. Perhaps think about car insurance since there seems to be some difficultly thinking clearly about health insurance.

Everyone else pays more, to cover the tens of millions uninsured (Blake’s group). A person driving without car insurance does the same thing. That’s why we made it legally required.

BIGD: A freeloader is an illegal drawing on the system.>>

      DAR
Blake’s freeloading is legal, for now. Soon it won’t be. It already isn’t in Massachusetts. (I think the Mass. experiment is a disaster btw).

BIGD: A freeloader is a person sitting on the couch drawing welfare.”>>

      DAR
A freeloader is also a person who doesn’t pay for the cost of insuring their health care risk. That’s Blake.

Bigd: A freeloader is a person who accepts government health care when others are paying for it.>>

      DAR
Exactly right. Except, you don’t need the word “government” in there. Actually, it doesn’t matter if you leave it in since the government also steps up and eats a great deal of the cost covering of Blake’s freeloading lifestyle.

Bigd: Risk is always passed on and that will not stop.>>

      DAR
Not at all. My Allstate premium for car and home insurance covers the cost of my risk, and then some. I know this because Allstate makes money on the deal. People who don’t pay car/home premiums and still expect to reap the benefits, are freeloaders. This is what Blake is doing with healthcare right now. I think he should pay his way and stop freeloading.

Bigd: Because of poor drivers we all pay more. We pay based on risk by age.>>

      DAR
Actually, that is factored in and adjusted for. Poor drivers pay more. Younger, single drivers pay more, etc. Blake doesn’t pay, he just asks that we pay for him should he get seriously sick or hurt. And we will.

Bigd: We pay more if the goat rancher down the street is at high risk.>>

This goat rancher down the street pays his full share for his health insurance. Over $600 a month. Blake does not pay. So they charge me more, to pay for his risk.

And I’m really not blaming him. The system is screwed.

Did you even read your own link? I did. There is nothing in there that even attempts to refute the claim I made!

This is pretty straight forward. Medical bankruptcy in the US is very common and effects thousands of people, every day.

      CLINICAL RESEARCH STUDY
Medical Bankruptcy in the United States, 2007: Results of a National Study

BACKGROUND: Our 2001 study in 5 states found that medical problems contributed to at least 46.2% of all bankruptcies. Since then, health costs and the numbers of un- and underinsured have increased, and
      bankruptcy laws have tightened.

METHODS: We surveyed a random national sample of 2314 bankruptcy filers in 2007, abstracted their court records, and interviewed 1032 of them. We designated bankruptcies as “medical” based on debtors’ stated reasons for filing, income loss due to illness, and the magnitude of their medical debts.

RESULTS: Using a conservative definition, 62.1% of all bankruptcies in 2007 were medical; 92% of these medical debtors had medical debts over $5000, or 10% of pretax family income. The rest met criteria for
medical bankruptcy because they had lost significant income due to illness or mortgaged a home to pay medical
bills. Most medical debtors were well educated, owned homes, and had middle-class occupations. Three quarters had health insurance. Using identical definitions in 2001 and 2007, the share of bankruptcies attributable to medical problems rose by 49.6%. In logistic regression analysis controlling for demographic factors,
the odds that a bankruptcy had a medical cause was 2.38-fold higher in 2007 than in 2001.

CONCLUSIONS: Illness and medical bills contribute to a large and increasing share of US bankruptcies.
