A Response To My Post On Defense

Interestingly, I got a comment nearly immediately after my post about Teri O’Brien’s article. The person who wrote linked to a piece about defense that is from the Daily Kos. The whole article goes on to talk about how defense wins and there are a lot of sports analogies made. This is then extrapolated to the current war on terror. Undoubtedly, this was written by a person who has no idea how to wage war.
While it is true that strong defenses win sports titles, without an offense no team can win. You must score more (or have more offense) than your competition in order to win. Sports teams do not neglect their offense in hopes that the defense will win the game. They approach the game with a strong and aggressive offense because without scoring, the best defense in the world will not help them win. The big thing is that when someone loses a sporting event, no one dies and the victors as well as the defeated, go home.
In war, the best defense is a good offense. You must constantly take the battle to the enemy. You must keep pressing the enemy and make him go on the defense. If an enemy is forced to take a defensive posture, he will lose because he can not mount an offense. The United States was in a defensive posture all during the Clinton years. The only time Clinton launched an attack was when he wanted to take people’s minds off his problems. During the defensive years of Clinton we were attacked a number of times. We did not take a position of offense when attacked and this allowed 9/11 to happen. We were attacked on 9/11 because the terrorists perceived us as weak. They did not expect the response they got and now we are on the offense. We are taking the fight to them, there, so we do not have to fight them here.
Patton said he would not pay for the same real estate twice and he was an aggressive tactician who always waged battles from an offensive position. He was also successful and that is because he took the fight to the enemy without letting the enemy bring the fight back.
This whole idea is why Democrats are not good for this country and why they are weak on national security. They do not understand the concept of taking the fight to the enemy. They would rather hunker down in their cocoons and hope that we are not attacked. This is not a strategy for success it is a recipe for disaster.

This, of course, was a hostile act - and, if done to prevent such - Israel’s targeting of a UN outpost was entirely justified. More importantly, this revelation should finally lay-to-rest any lingering illusions concerning the neutrality, sense -of-ju…
